...stand still and see the salvation of the Lord...for the battle is not yours, but God's" (2 Chronicle 20:15-17)
This is a charge from God that we must heed if we are to experience victory in our lives. If we are anxious and afraid, we stay the hand of God from moving in our circumstances. The story of Jehoshaphat, as recorded in 2 Chronicles chapter 20, is a perfect outline of how to obtain victory over any battle that confronts a child of God. Jehoshaphat was a good king who "sought the Lord...and walked in His commandments" (2 Chronicle 17:4). Yet he had enemies that came against him and his people to destroy them. This godly king followed some principles that are still relevant to us today:
Total Reliance on God
The first thing Jehoshaphat did when danger confronted him was to turn to the Lord in fasting and prayer. He humbled himself by acknowledging that he and his people were powerless before the hosts of the approaching armies. They realized that it was only God who could deliver them out of this trouble. Their humility and complete faith in God set the stage for victory.
Wait on God
...Having done all stand... (Ephesians 6:13). This is exactly what Jehoshaphat did. The bible tells us that King Jehoshaphat and "all Judah stood still before the Lord..." 2 Chronicle 20:13. Waiting on the Lord to move is harder than making futile efforts and motions of our own. The waiting time is when you receive instructions from God. The "still small voice" can be missed if you are not standing still. Jehoshaphat was instructed to go before the enemies and sing praises to God. What a strategy! As you wait on God, be willing to do whatever He tells you to do. "The foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men" (1 Corinthians 1:25).
Results Guaranteed
"And when they began to sing and to praise the Lord, He sent ambushments against the enemies...and they were defeated" (2 Chronicle 20:22). Not only was great victory won, the children of God came back home with the wealth and riches of their enemies. Their victory also became a testimony to all the people around them. Stay above...always.
