You can't please everybody all the time.  And it's a mistake to try.  People that think you are great today may think you are terrible tomorrow.  When you are doing anything worthwhile, expect opposition!  If you are one that has a constant need for men's approval, it can end up costing you God's best.
 
Jesus made "himself of no reputation" (Phillipians 2:7).  He wasn't always well thought of by others, but He knew He had God's approval...and that's what mattered to Him!  In Proverbs 21:1, the bible says that just like changing the direction of a moving river, God can change hearts and give you favor with those who'd otherwise reject you.  God can cause you enemies to be at peace with you.
 
Concentrate on pleasing God and let Him deal with the fallout.  The truth is, He is the only one that can promote you and bring you to your dream.  He is the only one that can give you blessings that, humanly speaking you don't deserve or qualify for.  So forget about people's opinion and seek God's approval.
