"When an unclean spirit goes out o a man, he goes through dry places..." (Matthew 12:43)
Spiritual dryness is an open door for Satan to come into a believer's life. Satan can only function successfully in a dry place. What is the condition of your heart today? Is it dry? If you continue reading this week's scripture reference, we are further told in verses 44-45 that spiritual dryness comprises of emptiness and idleness. When Satan finds such a believer, he goes and gets seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they come in and dwell in the man: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Spiritual dryness is Satan's environment. Until he finds a dry place he cannot survive. This is why we must fight and avoid spiritual dryness. Are you living in hatred and bitterness because somebody offended you? You are spiritually dry. Are you envious, murmuring, angry and having all kinds of evil thoughts? These are the results of spiritual dryness. Samson's problem was not Delilah but spiritual dryness. Gehazi was a man with great potentials, he could have perhaps received four times the anointed upon Elijah but he lost it to covetousness. His problem was neither money nor clothes, he was so spiritually dry that he couldn't say, "no." The trouble of Judas Iscariot was not 30 pieces of silver. He was the treasurer of Jesus' ministry; he kept the money bag which meant he had access to an account that was inexhaustible. So his problem was not money but spiritual dryness. The Bible says, "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" (Romans 8:6). You need to be spiritually alert and keep Satan away. Stop playing religion! Settle down and build yourself up; let spiritual things interest you more than other things. Let the study of God's Word be your daily delight. This is the only thing that will get you to your ultimate goal in life. Fight bitterness, hatred, anger, envy, covetousness... this will cause you to become spiritually dry and allow Satan into your life.
Stay above...always.
