"Let there be no strife between you and me." (Genesis 13:8)
When the grazing land between Abraham and Lot became too small, tensions rose between the two camps. It got to the point that Abraham had to address it. He told Lot his nephew "Let there be no strife between you and me... for we are brethren." There are two lessons we learn from this:
- There is a time when certain situations have to be confronted. Abraham did not say "I am not getting involved in this." Tensions left unchecked has the potential of driving a wedge into relationships. Wariness, controlled hostility and mistrust must be addressed and done quickly before they get out of hand. Ask God for wisdom and deal with the situation. Nobody enjoys confrontation, but your future peace and prosperity require handling things wisely, before they get out of hand.
- Don't worry about being taken advantage of; God will make it up to you. Abraham conceded to Lot and he got what appeared to be the short end of the stick...a dry and unfertile land. As the senior partner in this relationship Abraham had the right to demand the best for himself but he didn't. Abraham realized he had the blessing of God upon him and would prosper wherever he was placed!
If you are facing this kind of situation today...be it at work, at home, in church, with a friend or spouse or fellow employee, ask God for wisdom and then lovingly confront the situation. Don't worry about what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. Be the peacemaker, and walk in God's blessings.
Stay above...always.
