Do you feel something is missing in your life?  Is there an emptiness inside of you that you try to fill with things or people?  Until God takes His proper place, you will keep digging cisterns that cannot hold water.  We all want to be loved and be successful, but we must not look to people or our jobs for fulfillment.  "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength...he shall be like a shrub in the desert" (Jeremiah 17:5).
 
Do you know how to identify the people whose cisterns are not holding water?  They have that "great" job but they are stressed out, working long hours and feeling miserable and unfulfilled.  They have the latest car and the big house but are struggling to make their monthly payments and have that "empty" feeling inside them.  Without God, life is "...vanity and grasping for the wind" (Ecclesiastes 2:11).
 
The only One that satisfies and brings fulfillment and purpose is God.  Everything in life can be put into these words: "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all." (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
