LYSLeadership for the Soul

A few weeks ago, I received an email prayer letter from a missionary in Vienna, Austria, Brad. "Every step forward seems to be met with resistance.  The bigger the steps, the greater the resistance!"  He described this season on ministry as "kingdoms colliding." These words continued to echo in my mind.  Immediately I could relate to his struggles, the constant tension between victory and defeat. I read it a number of times and realized God was trying to teach me something. In His providence, He used this letter with the sermon the day before to teach me important truths about His character that will help me the next time I sense that "kingdoms are colliding", and trust me, I am confident there will be a next time.

WSPrayerCollaborative Community Strategy: You're Doing it Wrong!

Three common mistakes we make in collaborating in urban ministry.  (From personal experience).

Wrong Idea #1: I can collaborate with everyone!

Not every person or every organization in your neighborhood is necessarily a good match for collaborating with YFC.  Some have very different objectives, some will be gone next week and some will tell you a great story about how they want to work together (or give money/resources) and then never come through on their promises.

To correct this bad thinking: Know and communicate very clearly what your goals and objectives are as a minister and as a ministry.  Having an understanding of your identity and calling, and your ministry's purpose, will help like-minded partners become attracted to working with you and help you discern when it's not a good fit.  Don't try to change or hide what you stand for based on who you're talking to!
