A FEW WORDS FROM GARY

Dear friends,

"How To Use Us."

A few weeks ago, I signed off the newsletter by telling you  to "use us."  How do you use a wine and spirits store whose job it is to improve your libation experience? Education and familiarity are great starting points.  Let's talk about two items: Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Whiskey and Buffalo Trace Bourbon.

We have many samples sent in to us from these two suppliers.  We taste these samples with customers and in committee.  After the ballots are tallied, the barrels are ordered.  As a consumer, you can buy Jack Daniel's Single Barrel or Buffalo Trace practically anywhere.  You cannot, however, buy the ones WE sell except at this store.  We can do this because of volume.  This year, for example, we will sell 6 barrels of Buffalo Trace.

Lukas Wine & Spirits is going to really jump outside the box in the near future.  A small-batch bourbon is a blend of high end single barrels.  We have been asked to be the first retailer in the United States to create our own small-batch bourbon blend.  This is very exciting!  Our four spirits experts are up for the challenge.

Every week I will try to explain further how you can use us to improve your libation experience.  You can always come in and visit.  We love to talk

Thank you and have a safe and Happy Halloween!

OCTOBER PICKS OF THE MONTH

Gary:

Wines That Rock: Synchronicity Red Blend

$8.99 750ml

You can't miss this bottle - the label artwork comes straight from the classic Police album, Synchronicity. Pour this wine and give it a swirl in your glass. Once the aromas begin to jump out, Every Breath You Take will leave you wanting another whiff! Pour this at a party and all your guests will be Wrapped Around Your Finger! They will want to get a bottle of Synchronicity II! If you use the bottle to hit someone over the head, they'll be calling you the King Of Pain while a jaded detective will simply call it Murder By The Numbers!

Roxanne.

Jon:
Tenuta Vitanza Sangiovese
$10.99 750ml
Its very rare to see an Italian wine make our monthly picks, but this one impressed Jon SO much he couldn't resist.  This Sangiovese is bright and bold with a fruit & oak balance that doesn't zap your mouth dry like many other Italian reds.  The grapes used for this wine are also used to make one of the biggest Tuscan reds, Brunello, so you are getting a baby Brunello at a fraction of a Brunello price.  What a steal! Great for those fall stews or any last minute BBQ.

Tim:
Domaine Olivier Hillaire Vieilles Vignes Cotes du Rhone
$13.99 750ml
If you liked Tim's Pick last month, you're gonna LOVE it's Big Brother!
Showcasing the best qualities of the astounding 2009 vintage, this blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah is perfectly suited for those brisk Fall nights by the fire pit with a warm cup of chili!
Inky-black and fruit-forward, this wine comes from the Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines) which add even more intensity to the bold, ripe blackberry and plum flavors you LOVED in the Olivier Hillaire 'H' last month. The extra dose of Syrah here add tremendous structure and grip - you won't believe it's only $13.99! Stock up BEFORE this wine is scored 0 when we run out, it's gone forever!

Adam E:
Fulton's Harvest Pumpkin Pie Cream Liqueur
$10.99 750ml
Wow! Its been awhile since one item caught the entire store's attention, but this one roped us all in.  The staff loves it SO much that nearly everyone has already bought a bottle.  Not too thick and not too sweet, this liqueur captures the perfect taste of pumpkin pie with a whipped topping in a bottle.  Get it fast, because once it sells out it is gone until next year.

Adam C: (sorry all, this beer is sold out!)
New Belgium Lips of Faith 'Kick'
$7.99 22oz

New Belgium and Elysian are together again with Kick, a rich and tart pumpkin cranberry ale blended with wood-aged beer for a uniquely complex harvest season sour. The russet and orange of autumn shimmer through a slight haze like sunlight through the smoke from burning leaves. The taste and texture of pumpkin give way to the refreshing tang of cranberries and critters, satisfying and exciting with each swallow, finishing with an urge for more.
Kim brought sour from New Belgium; Dick brought pumpkin from Elysian. You'll get a Kick out of their collaboration.
