Gary:
Lamarca Prosecco
$13.99 750ml
Gary has been in the retail business for about 70 years, and in that time, he has learned to anticipate weddings and graduation celebrations in the month of June. Gary will probably sell about a million bottles of this delicious Prosecco this month. Will the rest of us ever learn to out-sell Gary? Not in this lifetime.
Montinore 'Borealis' White Blend
$11.99 750ml
A blend of white varietals from the Willamette Valley (ahem... 'Northern Whites') the 2010 vintage of this wine combines 34% Muller-Thurgau, 34% Riesling, 17% Pinot Gris and 15% Gewurztraminer. A delicious wine that doesn't stand a chance against Gary's pick.
Tim:
Three Saints 'Steak House Red'
$13.99 750ml
Remembering that Father's Day is a June holiday, Tim picked this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that is a PERFECT compliment to grilled meat. Hell, it even says STEAK in the name! Alas, Father's Day is one day in a month of FOUR weekends. Weekends that will, no doubt, be full of graduations and weddings. Also, Three Saints Steak House Red is not a tie or a gift certificate to a golf course, so it is not likely to be given as a Father's Day gift. However, the Dad writing this had lots of ties and doesn't golf... so...
Adam E:
Ardbeg 'Corryvreckan' Single Malt Scotch Whisky
$89.99 750ml
Your Dad wants Scotch. Even if he isn't a Scotch drinker, this Scotch will make him happier than any type of haberdashery you were thinking of giving him. Give your dad what he wants this Father's Day - a bottle of Corryvreckan and a nap.
Adam C:
Firestone Walker Double Jack
$6.99 22oz
What kind of beer can you get for 6.99 these days? You could buy the latest offering from on of the big guys (AB or Miller), probably a six-pack of something with a cartoon orange on the label or an ad-campaign featuring pop music and pool tables turning into (gasp!) ACTUAL POOLS. Or - you could buy ONE beer from the Firestone Walker 'Proprietors Reserve' series. Each beer in this series is packaged similarly, so if reading a bottle is beyond your skillset, you may want to skip this one.
Double Jack is an Imperial IPA (India Pale Ale), so it has more of everything that a regular IPA has. Usually, this means more hops. In the case of Double Jack, which is a high alcohol brew, there is a good wallop of malt to balance the high alcohol and hop content. Try one if you feel your $6.99 tastes best when it is spend on beer and not advertising. |
