Greetings!

Thanks to a recent cold-snap, we were all reminded that Fall is upon us. Unfortunately, that meant that lots of us were caught with our liquor cabinets well stocked with summer beverages, but woefully lacking in hearty cold-weather libations. Your friends at Lukas have got your back, though. Every fall, we see a rush of new and exciting products - new vintages of wine, winter beers and, of course, more new delicious brown liquors than you can handle.

In the spirit of all things NEW, we get the pleasure of showcasing the 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau! Literally, the New Beaujolais, this is an annual event (always the Thursday before Thanksgiving) for the worldwide release of the 2010 harvest of Gamay grapes, recently harvested, crushed and vinified - allowed to rest for 6 weeks, then shipped 'round the world, so everyone from Tokyo to Tallahassee can enjoy and evaluate the year's harvest. Sure, it's all a little cute and gimmicky, but the wines are always easy to enjoy, colorfully marketed and, above all, fun.

Want to see some wines that were also released recently without worldwide fanfare? Come to Lukas & just look for the "New Item" tags... there are lots! While you're at it, check out our comparison table where we show you the "great prices" offered by some of our competitors... they don't look so great when you put them next to Lukas' everyday prices. Keeping track of sales and special prices is frustrating and unnecessary. At Lukas, we make it easy! The more you shop, the more you save! Always!

We'll see you this weekend!

GLENLIVET SCOTCH CLASS

MOVED TO DECEMBER 2nd

Winston Evans
Due to the short notice given for the original date, we've decided to move the Scotch Class with Glenlivet Ambassador, Winston Evans, to Thursday, December 2nd. The cost remains the same. If you signed up for the class before the change and can no longer attend in December, we are happy to refund your reservation fee. Please call (636)227-4543 with any questions.

Meet Winston Evans
The Glenlivet Ambassador

The Glenlivet Ambassador for Chicago and the Midwest, Winston is proud to be representing The Glenlivet and sharing its glory wherever he goes.

Born and raised in Wales, Winston moved to Chicago in 2002, where he has worked as an actor, teacher and social worker, as well as representing The Glenlivet since May 2005.

Winston's biggest reward from his job as Ambassador is that every day he is able to share his knowledge about the fascinating world of Scotch Whisky and its heritage. "I'm truly a people person, and that's why this job is perfect for me," Winston says. "Scotch has long been a passion of mine, so to share a dram and a story with someone eager to learn is always a gratifying experience."

Evans now resides in Evanston, IL with his wife and son. His favorite Scotch is the beautifully structured and balanced The Glenlivet 18-Year-Old, cut with still spring water.

Come taste The Glenlivet family of Scotches with us Thursday, December 2nd from 7:00 - 8:30. $40 cost with $20 back towards any purchase of The Glenlivet.

Call (636)227-4543 to make a reservation. Payment is required to hold a reservation. Seating is limited.

LONG SHADOWS GIFT SETS

AVAILABLE NOW!

Long Shadows Collection
(from the Long Shadows website)
After twenty years at the helm of the Stimson Lane wine group (Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Crest and other wineries), Allen Shoup retired to pursue a personal dream. For years he had envisioned a joint venture with highly acclaimed winemakers from different regions of the world. His goal was to bring their expertise to Washington to create some of the most special wines ever crafted from the region's top vineyards; wines that would stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's best.

For the first time EVER, the red wines of the Long Shadows Winery are available together, in one beautiful wooden gift box. Unlike any other gift set this season, this box features SIX highly-rated wines in one box.

In each box, you will get 1 of each of the following for only $315.00:
  • 2006 Long Shadows Pirouette $55                    93 Points Wine Enthusiast                          54%Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Petite Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Syrah           "Concentrated and focused, it is expressive right out of the bottle, supple and clearly defined. Floral, darkly fruited, bursting with black cherry and cassis, detailed with licorice and stone, this excellent wine will be difficult to put away for aging, but well worth the effort."
  • 2005 Long Shadows Chester-Kidder $50        93 Points Wine Advocate                                                 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah, 5% Merlot "Opaque purple-colored, it reveals an alluring nose of brooding black fruit, pencil lead, mineral, and spice box. Round and ripe on the palate, it borders on opulence while concealing enough tannin to support another 6-8 years of cellaring. The sweet, savory fruit carries through into the lengthy finish."
  • 2007 Long Shadows Saggi $48                           91 Points Wine Advocate                                         43% Sangiovese, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Syrah                                                                                                             "... It was aged for 18 months in 55% new French oak.  Deep purple colored, it displays an expressive perfume of cedar, Asian spices, black cherry, and cassis.  Supple and round on the palate, this savory offering has excellent volume, plenty of concentration, and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years.  It will drink nicely for the next 8-10 years."
  • 2006 Sequel Syrah $55                                        93 Points Wine Advocate                                        96% Syrah 4% Cabernet Sauvignon                           "Aromas of cedar, smoke, game, bacon, and violets are alluring while leading to a round, layered, smooth-textured, full-bodied wine with several years of aging potential."
  • 2006 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon $64            93 Points Wine Advocate                                      100% Cabernet Sauvignon                                                      "The wine was sourced from several prime vineyards and aged for 22 months in new French oak. The nose gives up aromas of toasty oak, scorched earth, Asian spices, black currant, and blackberry. Firm and structured yet elegant on the palate, there are layers of fruit and enough tannin to evolve for another 4-6 years."
  • 2006 Pedestal Merlot $55                                   94 Points Wine Advocate                                                 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot                                                       "... reveals a fragrant nose of sandalwood, incense, sage, cinnamon, black cherry, and black currant.  Elegant on the palate despite its ample size, it is loaded with succulent fruit set off by enough ripe tannin to support an additional 3-4 years of cellaring.  It will deliver prime drinking from 2013 to 2027."
Again - only $315 for all 6!

NOVEMBER PICKS OF THE MONTH

We taste over 2,200 wines a year.
Every once in a while - we taste a wine we like!
Each month, several of us tell you about our current favorite.
Great idea, eh?
Gary's Pick:
Chateau de Valmer Vouvray $16.99
Are you expecting Thanksgiving guests that are "afraid" of wine? Try a Vouvray this year!

Tim's Pick: Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2009 $17.99
Drink it now & drink it while you can - we're normally only able to buy 1 or 2 cases of this wine, but we managed to get several more this year. This beautiful wine is light and floral and perfect with turkey and stuffing!

Hannah's Pick: Lucky Star Pinot Noir $8.99
Even if you're, like, a virgin to Pinot noir, this wine will take you to the borderline of flavor. You will want to express yourself as you tell the bottle "I'm crazy for you." You'll agree, despite its purple color, this wine is true blue. After serving it to your material girl, you'll want to take a bow. Vogue.

Kaitlyn's Pick: Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc-Viognier

Adam's Pick: Kilchoman Single Malt Scotch Whisky

WHAT'S TIM DRINKING RIGHT NOW?

Water

I had the day off today, and it's a good thing, too! I feel lousy. I think the yo-yo action of the thermometer hasn't helped, but whatever the cause, I have a slight cold. I'm excited for this weekend, though - can't let a little cold stop me from enjoying one of the busiest shopping days of the year! That's why tonight, I'm loading up on good ol' H2O. Not exactly glamorous or interesting to read about, and it doesn't really help sell the booze, but it IS important to stay hydrated. I'm sure next week I'll be back off the wagon... don't you worry.

SATURDAY LINEUP

More than you can imagine!

Every year, the Saturday before Thanksgiving is one of our busiest days all year, and this year will be no different. Of course, we'll have LOTS to taste - 5 different vendors on the sales floor AND a tasting room full of wine ... why bother listing it all here when you can taste it this weekend? You've got to come out and experience it for yourself!
We really do appreciate your business and we look forward to giving you another great experience soon!

Sincerely,
The Lukas Liquor Superstore Staff
