Justin's Pick
Bodegas Borsao, 75% Garnacha & 25% Tempranillo $6.99 Campo de Borja
Always a great choice - this wine is silky-smooth - a tremendous value! Justin likes to pair a bottle of Borsao with a meatball sub while he watches Lost re-runs.
The 2007 Borsao is 80% Garnacha and 20% Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel. Dark ruby-colored, it has an enticing bouquet of spice box and black cherry. Balanced, with good depth and a bit of structure, this attractive, savory wine will provide pleasure for the next 2-3 years.
Score: 87 The Wine Advocate Jay Miller, August 2008.
Gary's Pick
Las Rocas Garnacha, Garnacha $10.99 Calatayud
"The grapes for Las Rocas are sourced from high altitude 70- to 100-year-old Garnacha vineyards. The 2006 Las Rocas Garnacha is dark crimson-colored with an alluring nose of spice box, mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry. Smooth-textured, round, and with no hard edges, this tasty effort is designed for immediate gratification. This is one worth buying by the case."

Tim's Pick
Velt.1, Grüner Veltliner $8.99 Austria
What the Hell is Grüner Veltliner? Well, although not one of the wines we often think of in the bracing cold of winter, this wine is similar to Sauvignon Blanc. It has crisp citrus and floral notes on the nose with a bracing citric acidity. I don't know about you, but I NEVER have enough white wine at home - so the Velt.1 is a great choice.
Kaitlyn's Pick
Montinore Estate, Müller-Thurgau $8.99 Willamette Valley
Another strange varietal... Müller-Thurgau? This grape was created by Dr. Hermann Müller in 1882 because he wanted a grape that was similar to the noble Riesling grape, but easier to grow (earlier to ripen) like the more common German workhorse, Sylvaner. Although this vairetal left much to be desiered in its early days, it has done well in some Washington and Oregon vineyards. The Montinore Estate wine that Kaitlyn has chosen is an easy-drinking semi-dry wine that you need to have available at home. Pick up several bottles today and share this interesting treat with your friends!
