November Picks of the Month
Justin's Pick:
Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 $21.99
Enjoy the classic Napa style in this Cabernet. Full-Bodied with vibrant red berry flavors, enjoy this wine with big-ass meats like steak or lamb. Or don't!
Kaitlyn's Pick:
Henry's Drive "Dead Letter Office" Shiraz Australia 2005 $27.99
75%McLaren Vale - 25% Padthaway
"Full-Bodied, ripe & sweet, the wine has well-concealed tannins that will support 2-3 years of further bottle age. 90 points" -Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Gary's Pick:
Titus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005 $39.99
(from the website)
The Titus Cab is made in a traditional Bordeaux style blend and is what our estate is all about. This generous Cabernet Sauvignon shows big, lush tones of ripe, dark cherry and blackberry that integrate seamlessly with notes of coffee, chocolate and subdued molasses through the long finish. This is a wine to savor with good company.
Haley's Pick:
Torbreck "The Steading" 2005 $28.99
"The 2005 'The Steading' is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mataro, and 20% Shiraz aged for 22 months in used French oak. David Powell's interpretation of top-of-the-line Chateauneuf du Pape is spot-on. Purple-colored, it offers a fabulous nose of damp earth, garrigue, clove, kirsch, and black raspberry. Full-bodied, rich, and layered, the wine is powerful, complex and yet surprisingly light on its feet. It can be enjoyed now but will last for a decade. 93 points" -Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Adam's Pick:
Abbazia di Novacella Kerner 2007 $23.99
This is a weird one, but it's delicious...
Developed in the late 1960s, this very successful German white HYBRID is a combination of a red variety, Trollinger (SCHIAVA), and a white grape, RIESLING. It's most heavily planted in Germany's RHEINHESSEN and RHEINPFALZ regions, although it's cultivated to some extent throughout the country. Kerner produces quality, Riesling-like wines with good ACIDITY, FLORAL characteristics, and AGING ability. (Epicurious.com)
This one comes from Italy, and all you need to know is that it's mouth-watering and delicious.

You mean you were going to drink Pinot Noir this Thanksgiving?
This Thanksgiving, most of us will gather together with family and friends for a meal that likely took an entire day (or more) to prepare. We all want our Thanksgiving feasts to shine, and what better way to show off a great meal than with a great bottle of wine! What wine will you be serving with Thanksgiving?
You COULD serve Pinot Noir or Riesling with dinner... Pinot Noir is great for a gamey, juicy bird like turkey, and the right acidity in a Riesling just makes your mouth beg for food, but won't your guests be expecting those wines?
Hales has compiled a list of wines from "Outside The Box" to give you some ideas this Thanksgiving
Schmitges Rivaner Dry:
(Rivaner is also known as Müller Thurgau) - Mosel-Saar-Ruwer - 2007 $13.99
Refreshing - Bursting with fruit aromas. This wine's motto would be: Uncomplicated wine - indulgence without compromise!
Perfect with Ham or Turkey
Ponzi Pinot Gris:
Pinot Gris - Willamette Valley - 2007 - $17.99
Full-Bodied, rich grapefruit flavors with a long finish and enough viscosity to take on a big turkey dinner.
La Vendimia Rioja:
Rioja - 2007 - $13.99
Rich cherry and baking spice flavors & stone fruitsmake this medium-bodied wine an unexpected stand-in for (something like) a boisterous Pinot Noir.
Sori' Paitin Dolcetto D'Alba:
Vendemmia - 2006 - $15.99
Fresh & fruit-foreward with lots of cherry and sweet respberry tones. Fairly light in body, but enough oak tannin complexity to tell you this isn't a Pinot Noir...

A Couple More Things from The Spirits Department
From the 'Rare Booze' department:
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection '1838 Sweet Mash'
$93.99 750ml *Very Rare*
The 1838 Sweet Mash revives a historic technique using fresh grains yeast and water, the sweet mash, instead of a sour mash process in which ingredients from a prior distillation are introduced into a new mash mixture. The sweet mash is fermented for several days and then distilled resulting in a higher pH level and a milder, and as the name might reveal, sweeter flavor with notes of fruit and maple syrup. The 1838 Sweet Mash is believed to be the first sweet mash bourbon to be made since Prohibition.
Jack Daniels Commemorative Bottles
$76.99 for Two (2) 750ml bottles sold together **Extremely Rare**
Commemorating BOTH the 70th anniversary of Jack Daniels' return to whiskey production AFTER the end of prohibition AND the 75th anniversary of the end of prohibition, we have a set of two bottles of Jack Daniels Black Label Tennessee Whiskey, each bearing the commemorative info.

The Garagiste Movement: Jonathan Maltus is the consummate Bordeaux outsider. An Englishman and a businessman in a region of French aristocracy, he has taken the Bordeaux establishment by storm. His purchase of the St Emilion Estate Chateau Teyssier in 1994 gave him a base to grow into one of the most sought after producers of Bordeaux today. He has gone on a buying spree in recent years, purchasing miniscule plots of world class vineyards to create the micro-cuvee Garagiste wines that have the Bordeaux world buzzing. His six estates are small parcels of old vines in some of the best Terroirs in St. Emilion.
Reshaping the En Primeur Campaign: Traditionally, Bordeaux wines are offered as "futures" about 6 months after the vintage. A small quantity of wine, the "First Tranche" at low prices is rapidly followed by larger quantities of wine at progressively higher prices. Customers are asked to put down a deposit at the time of purchase that can range up to 50% of the total price. Chateau Teyssier offers a single price "en primeur". In addition, payment is due on delivery of the wines, some 18 months later than the traditional method. You don't have to pre-pay or wait using this method! Call your friends and take advantage of this great opportunity!
Teyssier's track record: The 2005 wines -with which we launched this program last year- were acknowledged with enthusiasm by the national wine press. The Wine Spectator awarded the value-oriented 2005 Chateau Teyssier with 90points and a great review. The two top tier wines were touted in The Wine Advocate and scored accordingly: 2005 Le Dome, 96Pts. Parker and 2005 Les Asteries, 95Pts. Parker. The well-priced bottlings of the 2005 Le Carre, Laforge and Grand Destieux ranged in kudos from 90-93 Parker Points
