| SCBCH Programs for 2009 |
|
As you know, the purpose of the SCBCH is to serve as a partnership for businesses, organizations, and individuals in South Carolina to act collaboratively in creating sustainable initiatives to improve healthcare quality and efficiency and to promote greater consumer responsibility in healthcare decisions. To accomplish these goals the Coalition has developed a comprehensive list of programs that will be offered to members in 2009: A brief summary of each program is listed below: ·Chronic Care Centers - The goal of these centers is to help employers control the costs of managing their high-risk population and improves the health of employees at the same time. ·Data Cooperative Initiative- We are working with our sister coalition, Healthcare 21, to allow members to come together to collect, store , normalize, analyze and act on their data in order to improve the value of healthcare benefits they provide for their employees and dependents. ·SCBCH Diabetes Network - The Coalition has formed a network of members interested in preventing diabetes and improving the health of their employees. The network will work closely to share programs, identify best practices, and measure outcomes. ·Education - We offer an array of educational opportunities that assist members in implementing high quality, value based health benefits. ·eValue8 - This tool allows purchasers to provide true health care value: health care that integrates leading-edge evidence-based practices at a fair cost. ·Health Fairs - SCBCH offers personalized assistance with the planning of health fairs for our members. ·Hospital Quality Guide - We produce an annual hospital quality report that includes measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. In this report, hospitals are assessed on safety, quality, and efficiency using nationally established measures. ·Mentoring & Management ("M & M") Program - This program will allow new or current benefit managers an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the principles of Value Based Purchasing (VBP), Value Based Benefits Design (VBBD), Health Risk Management (HRM) principles, and the psychology of changing human behavior in order to reduce healthcare costs and increase productivity. ·Pharmacy Benefit Management - We offer members the opportunity to join a multi-coalition contract through Walgreens Health Initiatives.

U.S. Health Stagnates for Fourth Year in a Row as Revealed in 2008 America's Health Rankings™
In a disturbing development, the 2008 America's Health Rankings™: A Call to Action for Individuals & Their Communities revealed that the health of Americans has failed to improve for the fourth consecutive year. Key factors contributing to these results included unprecedented levels of obesity, an increasing number of uninsured people, and the persistence of risky health behaviors, particularly tobacco use. For 19 years, America's Health Rankings™ has provided an annual analysis of national health on a state-by-state basis. The longest running report of its kind, America's Health Rankings™ evaluates a historical and comprehensive set of health, environmental, and socio-economic data to determine national health benchmarks and an annual ranking of the healthiest and least healthy states. Despite the discouraging national story, some states are making significant strides against some of the country's biggest health challenges - demonstrating that there are workable solutions to the most prevalent health problems.
