Heart Gallery is in Montgomery for National Adoption Awareness Month!

Jarred

Come celebrate with us at Frazer United Methodist Church, 6000 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery, on Tuesday November 17th at 6pm. There will be a portrait exhibit of Alabama's Waiting Children, sponsored by Beasley Allen, plus a catered reception and adoption information session. The event is free and family friendly, so come and celebrate all of the wonderful families that have been and will be created through adoption!

After the NAM celebration on the 17th, the exhibit will be taken down and moved to Inverness Vineyard Church at 4733 Valleydale Rd in Birmingham and will remain on display until December 11th.

Help us find families for the 300+ children who are still waiting for their forever family!

Through your generous support, and the support of our community, we together have been able to find permanent, loving families for over 130 children in Alabama's foster care system.

We are good at what we do and our goal is to make foster care truly temporary.

  • We have more than 300 Alabama children in active recruitment, and we support more than 1,000 families nationwide, in their adoption journeys.
  • This year alone, close to 50 of the children we have photographed have been potentially placed with a forever family.
  • We have been able to shorten the time spent in foster care and send these vulnerable children home with their forever families.
There are MANY happy success stories to share, yet there is still more work to do.

With approximately 7,000 children in foster care in
Alabama, we want to help them all find their
forever families. To do so we need your support!
Please join hands with us as we work to
find families for all of Alabama's children.

Together ...we can change their lives forever.

A contribution of $100 will cover one child's photo shoot! Click HERE to make your tax-deductible donation online, or send your check payable to Heart Gallery Alabama to 1801 Oxmoor Rd, Ste 101, Birmingham, AL 35209.

All gifts are greatly appreciated!

DeWayne

Mikell, born February 1998 is in the 5th grade (2009-10 school year) and was on the honor roll last year. Mikell needs (and receives) speech therapy at school. He needs very little redirection and completes his assigned tasks and chores in record time. He does well managing and is in a regular classroom setting. He enjoys participating in church and Boy Scout activities. Mikell also likes to play tricks on his little brother and there is some sibling rivalry. Mikell enjoys the outdoors and becomes excited when describing the activities that he enjoys. He enjoys baseball, bowling and he loves to read. Mikell is very good at working with younger children; however, he may benefit from an having an older mentor himself. Mikell exhibits a great smile and is impressionable with adults.

Sheldon was born in December 2000. He is in the 3rd grade (2009-10 school year) and needs a little extra help in math. He puts forth an effort to complete his classwork and study. Although Sheldon needs some extra academic help he challenges himself daily to learn new things. He also enjoys participating in Boy Scout Activities. He adores his older brother and is very protective of him. Sheldon has a great sense of humor and is extremely funny. Sheldon enjoys anything related to cars. He loves to eat any kind of fruit, chicken and hamburgers. He also loves dessert! Sheldon plays well alone; however, he often has to check to see what his brother is doing. Sheldon likes to watch movies and go bowling.

These boys are very protective of one another and will be placed in a home together -- despite their need to agitate each other from time to time.

Beth

Sherry "Beth", born April 1994 is a fun and bright young lady. She enjoys spending time with her friends and listening to music. She is in the 8th grade (2008-09 school year) and works very hard to maintain her grades but sometimes she needs help with assignments and preparing for exams. Beth has an excellent sense of humor and is very likable. Her favorite subject in school is English. She enjoys playing volleyball. Beth dreams of becoming a pediatrician because she loves children.

Beth would like a family with a mom and dad. Beth needs structure and parents who will teach and promote responsibility. She sometimes needs to be reminded that others have feelings that need to be taken into consideration. Beth is very close to her younger brothers and would like to maintain this relationship once she is adopted.

Meet Nicholas and Sierra

Nicholas and Sierra

Sierra, born in August 2001 is a cute little girl who is very loving, kind and has the sweetest little smile. When Sierra smiles and giggles she makes you want to do the same. She volunteers and likes to help you in whatever you are doing. She is always busy, likes to be involved in whatever you do. She could sing all day and loves to listen to different types of music. She also likes to draw.

Sierra is very fashionable. She loves pretty, girly clothes and likes to dress up, but she also likes her jeans and t-shirts. Her favorite holiday is Valentine's Day because you get heart-shaped candy -- which, by the way, is her favorite food. She loves her hair long and she likes her pony tail because she says she likes it to swing it back and forth.

Nick, born August 2000, is a very intelligent boy and his favorite past time is drawing and tracing pictures. You can ask Nick to "sit at this table while I go..." and when you look back he's got a piece of paper and pencil drawing something. He is also very good at coloring and painting. Nicholas likes school and makes very good grades. Nick likes to play outside and ride his bicycle. He is mischievous, is very inventive and likes to know how things work and operate. Nick's favorite food is ravioli. His favorite restaurant is McDonald's or Burger King. He wants to be a comedian when he grows up.

Nicholas is a loving little boy who needs lots of love and attention. He and Sierra love each other very much and it is such a joy to see them laughing and doing silly playful things together.

Meet Demonte
Photographed by: Michelle McCullough

Demonte

Demonte, born October 1997, is a young man with lots of energy to burn. He enjoys school and does well in a small environment with lots of structure. He really likes being the teacher's helper. He currently attends his neighborhood school but is in a self-contained classroom.

Circumstances surrounding his birth have left him with special learning needs. A family with some experience and knowledge of special education would be great for Demonte. Demonte is working on independent living skills. He has mastered the task of ironing and his foster mother says he does that really well. Demonte also likes helping out around the house and in his classroom by cleaning.

Demonte enjoys music and singing and going to church every Sunday with his foster mother. Like most growing boys, he has a healthy appetite and as expected, pizza is among his favorites.
