Saludos,
This edition of ePiata highlights several important health initiatives we organized in late August, including our fourth annual celebration of Vive tu Vida! Get Up, Get Moving (GUGM) New York. This incredible health fair brought together hundreds of families for a day of fun, free medical screenings and physical exercise. I am proud to say that thanks to the support of our member agencies and volunteer health organizations, we provided event participants with nearly 1,000 free health screenings focused on skin cancer detection, blood pressure, dental health, HIV, depression and cholesterol. We are deeply grateful for the generous support provided to us by our local lead sponsor TOYOTA. Additional support was provided by Aetna, Pfizer Helpful Answers, Asma en Espaol and Southwest Airlines. The event was fun and deeply rewarding, and we look forward to hosting next year's event.
Speaking of fun and events, I wanted to remind all of you that our Fall Fundraiser - A Night of 1000 Friends - is right around the corner. Yes, on September 30th at the Time Warner Center in Midtown New York, we will be gathering at 6:00PM with hundreds of new and old friends for an amazing evening of music, cocktails and networking. Individual tickets are just $100 dollars. The event is a great way to enjoy a Thursday evening in the heart of New York City and express your support in our work and mission. To RSVP, please click here. I look forward to celebrating the evening of the 30th with all of you.

New York's Primary Elections are Less Than a Week Away
As the nation's largest and fastest growing ethnic group, the Latino community finds itself at the forefront of historic debates on economic development, education, health care, immigration and civil rights. Our voter campaign slogan - OUR TIME TO VOTE VOTA! ES NUESTRO TIEMPO - reflects this pivotal moment in our community's history. To ensure our interests and concerns are heard, we need you to go to the polls next Tuesday, September 14th and exercise your right to vote. Primary elections will feature contests for the offices of Governor (R), U.S. Senator (D&R), Attorney General (D), certain Congressional seats (R) and New York State Senate and Assembly seats (D&R). Please note that in order to vote in the primary you must be enrolled in a political party.

This fall, students are invited to participate in the fourth annual Eco Challenge for a chance to win part of $500,000 in grants and scholarships.
Middle and high school teams comprised of five to ten students and one teacher advisor are invited to participate in one or both of the two initial challenges, each addressing different environmental elements - land/water and air/climate. The submission deadline for Challenge One (Land/Water) is November 3, 2010. The deadline for Challenge Two (Air/Climate) is January 19, 2011.
