Saludos,

The Hispanic Federation has the privilege of representing nearly 100 Latino community-based nonprofits throughout the Northeast. These organizations play a unique role in ensuring a just and inclusive society, and building strong and vibrant communities. I am constantly amazed at how our agencies continue to meet the growing needs of the communities they serve in the face of dwindling resources. This has never been more so than in the last three years as we have endured relentless public and private funding cuts, and unreasonably long delays in receiving reimbursements on state and local government contracts. This situation has created severe cash flow problems for our agencies as each of us has had to use precious agency cash reserves to float state services.

The prospect of additional reductions to core and social safety net services is simply untenable and belies the reality that struggling families require more help, not less, in these difficult economic times.  We are working aggressively to communicate this message to government officials, foundations, corporations and other key stakeholders. Undeniably, there is a need for immediate policies and actions that advance our ability to create a better future. If you're interested in supporting our efforts to strengthen the Latino nonprofit sector, please feel free to contact me or our Senior Vice President, Jose Calderon. Together, we can ensure that our nonprofits thrive and fulfill their missions - as providers of essential services, as key players in community stability and revitalization, and as major employers and economic catalysts in underserved neighborhoods. Gracias!

Puerto Rican Family Institute Logo

This year the Puerto Rican Family Institute (PRFI) is celebrating 50 years of providing quality health and human services to the Latino community both on the U.S. mainland and in Puerto Rico. From promoting family unification, treating the emotionally afflicted and connecting the homeless with long lost family members, to providing care to persons living with HIV/AIDS and giving a head start in education to children, PRFI has remained true to its mission to serve Latinos with highly effective, focused interventions that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. Annually, PRFI provides care to more than 25,000 individuals.
