Message from the President
¡ Hola Familia! I am very excited to present you the first issue of our Piñata e-newsletter. As many of you know, for nearly twenty years Piñata has been an important source of information about the work of the Federation, our network of social service and advocacy organizations, and Latino views and perspectives on current affairs. Those of you that have been following recent issues know that we have been focused on increasing environmental stewardship and leadership within the Latino community. Well, E-Piñata represents another step forward in our efforts to become more "green".
Much like before, E-Piñata will spotlight stories on recent and future Federation happenings. It will also continue to highlight the work of our nonprofits - and feature opportunities available to them and our friends and supporters. What is different is that this new vehicle will allow us to reach a much wider audience and have our growing readership obtain more timely, extensive and user-friendly information through links to important websites. This first issue of E-Piñata focuses on the remarkable March for Immigrant Rights in our nation's capital, the historic passage of the Health Care Reform bill and our ongoing Census Awareness campaign. We hope you enjoy it! Lillian Rodríguez López President

Building Nonprofit Boards
Everyday, thousands of nonprofits throughout the five boroughs make our city a better place to live and work. Whether they're delivering health and human services, celebrating arts and culture, or protecting our environment, every nonprofit needs talented and committed volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors.
In recognition of the important role that board members play in supporting the work of local nonprofits, United Way of New York City, in partnership with NYC Service and HF is launching BoardServeNYC to:
-
Encourage more New Yorkers to consider serving on a nonprofit board
-
Increase the supply of trained board candidates
-
Help more candidates connect to board service opportunities at more nonprofit
