Support Health Care as a Right Today at President Obama's Town Hall Meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Affordable and accessible health care is an essential safeguard of human life and a fundamental human right...
- U.S. Catholic Bishops, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, 2007

Dear Friends,

You've seen the images on your television or on the Internet: protestors, many organized by Republican operatives, loudly disrupting the best efforts of Democratic Senators and members of Congress to educate the American public on health care reform and the legislation before Congress.  They are willing to say anything - including spreading false information about the bills - and to do anything - including shouting down members of Congress anti-health care reform 2before they even have the chance to answer a question - in order to achieve their goal of stopping reform.

Now, President Obama is coming to New Hampshire tomorrow to talk about the importance of health care - and those same Republican operatives are gearing up to disrupt this important event.

We at Catholic Democrats believe that health care is more than a mere public policy issue - it is a right anti-health care reformthat all Americans should have.  We agree with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops when they say that "affordable and accessible health care is an essential safeguard of human life and a fundamental human right."  The good news is that President Obama believes that too.  But we can anticipate that Republicans and their allies will make every attempt to drown out that important message in Portsmouth, New Hampshire tomorrow.

We need you to be part of the vocal majority saying you want to see health care reform in 2009
If you are in New Hampshire, or close enough to it to make a day trip, please consider joining other Americans to be outside of the event to make sure that the media and public know of your support.  Also, please forward this friends and family here Forward to a Friend .   Details of tomorrow's Town Hall event are below:

When:  11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Note: the Town Hall begins at 1 p.m.)
Where:  Portsmouth High School, 50 Andrew Jarvis Drive, Portsmouth, NH

Consider making a sign saying "Health Care is a Fundamental Human Right" or "Catholic Democrats Support the President's Health Plan."   When you arrive please look for the signs with the Catholic Democrats's logo or call Steve Krueger, National Director (617-817-8617), who will be at the event.

With your help, we can hope to see that the the human right of affordable and accessible health care can come to pass this year.

With our thanks for your continued support,
