Dear Members & Friends,

A project worthy of approval!

How would you react to a project that provides expanded shopping, new retail space, improved walkways, creates 100+ jobs, improves traffic movement, ample parking and incorporates hundreds of community suggestions?

The Oakland Planning Commission will review the project this Wednesday (tomorrow) evening! We strongly recommend approval of the expanded Safeway project at Claremont and College avenues!

Health Insurance heads-up...

A recent Health Care Webinar conducted by Small Business California, compliments of Cal Insurance, revealed the following:

Insurance companies may soon be sending notification of amendments to existing health care contracts. Sample language follows:

This amendment changes your contract with us (insurance company) to reflect the federal SBC (Summary of Benefits and Coverage) rules. The addendum is effective Sept. 23, 2012, and could say:

  • You will be responsible for sending an electronic or printed copy of the SBC to participants and beneficiaries
  • You will hold (the insurance company) harmless from all costs you have to pay if you do not send SBC's as legally required
  • To the extent (the insurance company) is fined as a result of your failure to abide by any SBC legal requirements, you will reimburse (the insurance company) for any resulting fines or penalties
  • You must give (the insurance company) your renewal information in a timely manner as directed by (the insurance company) to help us in making an SBC for you.

If an employer doesn't send the SBC in the required timeframes, various fines and penalties could apply.

 God Bless America!
