Dear Members & Friends,

Help make the Visually Impaired Wall a reality

Saturday was an inspiring day for me! I accepted the invitation to speak along with Mario Chiodo to a group of blind men and women at their meeting place in Berkeley about "Remember Them: Champions for Humanity!"

At the meeting each attendee had the chance to touch an original monument casting of Helen Keller and to learn how the project was conceived and developed over the last 11 years. While there were many questions about the project, it was particularly touching how excited and pleased they all were to learn and to be recognized. Mario donated the casting of Helen Keller and each person in attendance was provided a braille document with quotes of the Humanitarians on the first three sections.

The Wall dedicated to the visually impaired will display bronze faces of 25 Humanitarians with a quote in braille for each honoree to allow those who cannot see the opportunity to understand what the individuals looked like and insight to their thinking.

Section 4 will be unveiled in September of this year, but funds are still needed to complete the Visually Impaired Wall, the first of its kind nationally to our knowledge.

If you can assist us financially, please make your check payable to the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Foundation - or the OMCC Foundation - and send it to the Chamber at 475 14th St., Oakland, CA 94612.

On behalf of Mario, the Chamber, and the thousands of visually impaired people who would be able to "see" the monument, THANK YOU!

God Bless America!

 Joseph Haraburda, President and CEO
