Buenos Dias, Mis Amigas!

It's spring and we have a lot to celebrate, like Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day!

Our Larimer County communities are hosting many Cinco de Mayo celebrations this weekend. I hope you can get out and enjoy them. See below for more information.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10. If you're still searching for the perfect gift, shop at Mountain Avenue.com. The locally owned company has many unique, affordable Fair Trade items and proceeds help support local nonprofits, as well as third world artisans.

If  you're not feeling especially celebratory, consider these anxiety-relieving strategies from the American Academy of Family Physicians (as reported by Lloyd Thomas, local life coach and licensed psychologist):

* Don't worry about things you can't control (like an economic
recession). Try to look at change as a positive challenge, not a
threat.
* Set realistic goals and limits at home and work. If you are
currently out of work, pursue realistic daily goals for finding or
creating a job.
* Take brief "mini-vacations" throughout the day. These can be one to two minutes of daydreaming, counting backwards from 100, following your breath pattern, imagining yourself in some quiet, peaceful location, etc.
* Exercise. You don't need to run a marathon, just do something
active every day if possible.
* Get enough sleep.
* Use relaxation techniques: deep, abdominal breathing; yoga;
meditation; a warm, soothing bath.
* Treat yourself as you would a loved child.

And please remember to use GoodSearch.com, designating Poudre Valley Health System Foundation as the charity for which you "GoodSearch" so HCC can earn a little cash! Thank you.

Yours In Health,
Kim Sharpe sig
