Ardha Kurmasana

Once you get past the opening of the shoulders and the hips, ardha kurmasana becomes a very relaxing and soothing posture. Although you must use strength throughout the posture, which begins with stretching the arms up overhead and maintaining the strength. The posture must be approached by slowly bringing the upper body down with straight spine working towards bringing the head on the floor first. This posture helps build strength in the core area, mainly abdomen and back muscles. The practice of bringing the upper body down slowly and with a straight spine, will help keep the hips on the heels longer and eventually maintaining that contact throughout the posture.

This posture mainly helps to stretch and lengthen the entire spine and also helps to open shoulder and hip joints. The head below the heart helps to bring fresh oxygenated blood to the brain, which helps mental clarity. Also, there is much internal stretching to the organs inclusive of the stretch to the lower portion of the lungs that will help with respiratory problems. This posture is also a great release for tension in the neck and shoulder area. Also, helps cure digestive problems and insomnia.

I hope this finds you all well, and that you have been having a wonderful summer, enjoying this beautiful weather (and our beautiful island) to the fullest.  But now, just like every other year, whether we are ready or not, summer is winding down and it is time to start gearing up for fall.   The new school year is starting, and it is the perfect time to get back to those things you didn't have time for while the gorgeous weather was calling you to be outside.

Around the studio, we are looking forward to fall, because fall always means we get to see a lot of "happy smiling faces"
returning.  So drop by and see us!  Take a class.  Detox from a summer of "too much good stuff". 

And this fall, we are making it even easier for you to get here! In addition to the fantastic sale above, as of September 7, we will be returning to our "regular" schedule, with a couple of bonus classes!!  A later class, (8pm on Wednesday nights), and an extra class on Saturday mornings. (8am and 10 am).  The new schedule is below, with changes marked in red.  Hope to see  you all soon!
