Greetings!
Well, here we are again, another month has passed and we are well into spring. I hope this finds everyone well and enjoying the meditation of the outdoors. Sometimes it's nice to just sit quietly and listen to the birds. Turn your face to the sun. Feel the warmth on your skin. Breathe deeply. Welcome the JOY!!

Summer Schedule coming soon!
We will be posting a new summer schedule within the next couple of weeks. We will be offering slightly fewer classes for the summer, as many students find other activities filling up their time. However, we encourage you all to keep up a consistent year round practice. Even if you can only find the time for 1 class a week during the summer, you'll be glad you kept it up when you return to regular practice in the fall.

Student of the Month- Lisa Jenkins
| Lisa has been quietly coming into the studio almost daily, sometimes doing doubles, "just because". I know she has been an inspiration to other students who were doing challenges in the last couple of months. Here is what she has to say about her practice.--
I have to say when Kari asked me to be student of the month, literally I laughed and my first thought was....ok, I'm a yoga dork! But honestly I really do love everything about it and the challenge I get from every class. It is an ongoing practice which extends beyond just the classroom but also into everyday life. It has taught me awareness and to be patient and kind, not just to others, but to myself. I practice 5-6 times a week and find on days I don't, my body craves the workout. The feeling after class is amazing, even on the most stressful or lazy days I always leave the room feeling energized and refreshed.
Bikram yoga is rewarding in so many ways, physically and mentally. The best thing yoga has done for me is give me a challenging workout which is ever growing and relieving of stress due to a hectic work schedule thus one of the reasons I started practicing yoga. I have to say I am a different person than I was before I started practicing yoga. My concentration is better, as well as my patience, awareness, determination and physically I am stronger, more flexible with improved posture.
I have practiced several forms of yoga in the past and find my body and mind is always asking for the challenge of Bikram and the effects of the heat in the room. I have been physically active with sports and gymnastics most of my life and Bikram gives me the strength of a full body workout and the sense of well being all in one. It is something I can do just for myself and feel great about. Through yoga I learned to walk through life with a greater ease and to channel the effects of everyday pressures elsewhere.
Thanks Doug and all the teachers and students who bring something different to each class and make it such and amazing place to be. I'm addicted!

As I finish writing this, the sun is coming out after what seems like endless rain over the last few weeks. And it reminds me of something I read yesterday, that I think can relate, as so many things can, to our yoga classes, and our lives. It was about appreciating where you are right now, no matter your situation.
"Be grateful for our highs, and graceful with our lows"
It may rain and rain, we may fall out of postures constantly, but the sun will come out eventually, and when it does, we will all be able to "lock the knee."
Namaste,
Kari Bradley Bikram Yoga Nanaimo
