Greetings!
For all your Hard-working Yogi's, here is a passage from Bikram's wife, Rajashree, a master instructor as well, that can inspire you and me:
"We have so many things that we hold onto during our days and nights, ideas that take root in our minds, unpleasant or even pleasant thoughts. Try to relinquish these, detach, at least once a day, and give your mind and heart a respite. Refresh yourself with the infinite force of Unconditional Love. A good time may be in your savasana after you have completed your class. In this way you will have a fresh start every day!"
Enjoy your yoga lessons! |

Feature Pose - Triangle Pose
Trikanasana, a.k.a Triangle pose, is often called the master pose. We engage every muscle, ligament and tendon in the body to do this pose. There are many health benefits to the pose as well. This pose compresses the kidneys, alleviates saddlebags, changes chemical imbalances in the system, helps hip and back pain, and frozen shoulders.
Tips:
There are many misconceptions about this pose. The first is the hips. (Assume we start with the right side.) To get the right thigh parallel to the floor, you must sit deep into the hip joint. At the same time, let the left hip twist a little toward the mirror. The hips should be level to the floor but not parallel to the mirror. The right elbow goes in front of the right knee. Push the knee back with your elbow while at the same time pushing your hips towards the mirror. (Don't change the angle of the hips, just push them forward) Then look up at the left thumb, chin on your shoulder. If you have neck pain in this pose, ask a teacher if you are trying to backbend instead of twist. The final part of this pose is the spine twist. The left shoulder drops back, right shoulder forward like you are opening your chest towards the ceiling. Make sure you are not trying to backbend, it is a spine twist! For a great visual, check out Bikram and Rajashree on the cover of Bikram's book and the picture above!
Benefits:
The Triangle is the only posture in the world that improves every muscle, joint, tendon and internal organ in the body. At the same time, it revitalizes nerves, veins, and tissues. It helps cure lumbago and rheumatism of the lower spine by flexing and strengthening the last five vertebrae, and it improves crooked spines. This is the most important pose to increase the strength and flexibility of the hip joint and of the muscles of the side of the torso. it also firms upper thighs and hips, slims the waistline, and improves the deltoid, trapezius, scapula, and latissimus muscles. |
Inspirational Student - Andrea
Getting to share why I love Bikram yoga is such an honor. I have been into yoga for about 13 years but only discovered Bikram yoga about 18 months ago. I try and make it a part of my daily life and have noticed so many benefits that it would take too long to list them all. I think most people who might be reading this are already, or are about to be convinced of these benefits.
I'll just mention some specific things that I really enjoy about Bikram yoga. As a homeschooling Mom of three, I find that this yoga is the best energizer for keeping me feeling good about being a positive role model for my kids. Also, my husband Michael began his practicing at the same time and it has improved our relationship in so many wonderful ways, bringing greater understanding and harmony. I know this is a direct result of us learning to love and care for ourselves. Facing yourself in the mirror, under florescent lights, with lots of people and no one is wearing much --this can be the first obstacle to get over--aside from the heat. I like that it is attractive to so many men. The class feels more balanced with men and women bettering themselves together... | |
