Chocolate and Wine
for the New Year.
I wish you a wonderful New Year! This seems like the perfect time to show you the lettering I did for Swanson Vineyards, and to relay to you the delightful text on their home page: "The Swanson products and philosophy celebrate decadence with a wink - the sublime mixing of the high with the low. We glorify day-to-day living by introducing luxury products that were once considered stuffy and intimidating in a delightful and accessible manner. We encourage you to plop ice cubes in your glass of rosato during the summertime; savor the naughty combination of chocolate bonbons with estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon; or serve American caviar and potato chips with Pinot Grigio - just because you want to."
Well, their packaging is sublime, and my lettering is the wink. The top image shows how my lettering is used on the top of their bonbon hatbox (the package is finished off with a black and white polka dot ribbon tied in a bow). I lettered the bottom three names for their wines. Each name runs vertically up the bottle, and is the only graphic element. Tardif and Luminous utilize clear bottles, with the contents (Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer, respectively) showing through. Minuit is a Black Muscat in a black bottle. Stunning.
