Celebrate Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month.  We have lots of great poetry books for kids, featuring everything from silly side-splitting poems to serious reflective poems about nature and the world around us.  Here are a few of the newest additions to our poetry collection:

A Whiff of Pine, A Hint of Skunk - Take a lighthearted romp through four seasons in the forest with these whimsical poems.

Can You Dig It? -  Read about everything from Brontosaurus burgers to Neanderthal hats in this hilarious collection of poems featuring dinosaurs, paleontologists and stone age people.

Sky Magic - A magical collection that takes readers from sunrise to sunset with poems that pay tribute to the sun, moon and stars.

The Swamps of Sleethe - Jack Prelutsky's outer space is not for the faint of heart.  This collection features darkly comedic cautionary verses about unexplored worlds far beyond our solar system.

Truckery Rhymes -  A funny collection of rowdy rhymes and honk-along songs starring trucks, cars and things that go, which give new life to classic nursery rhymes.

Anything But Typical
Jason Blake knows he's very different from the "neurotypical" (NT) people in his life: he's twelve years old, and three years ago he was diagnosed with autism. But while he has great difficulty fitting in with his peers and teachers at school, he has a rich online life writing and posting stories on the Storyboard website and interacting with other writers. There he meets PhoenixBird, a girl who becomes his online friend - maybe even girlfriend. But when he has the chance to go to the Storyboard convention, and discovers that PhoenixBird is going too, he panics: what if PhoenixBird sees only his autism, and rejects him?  Borrow this book and find out what happens.
