District103
HALF DAY SCHOOL and DANIEL WRIGHT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
NAMED 2010 BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS

On September 9, 2010, the U.S. Department of Education named Half Day School and Daniel Wright Junior High School, located in Lincolnshire, Illinois, as 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools. Upon receiving this national recognition, School District 103 Superintendent Dr. Larry Fleming said, "This accomplishment recognizes the high levels of achievement by our students, supported by a staff dedicated to best practice in instruction for every student and a parent community that highly values education. Our entire learning community should take pride in being recognized as one of the highest performing elementary school districts in our nation. This award also validates our collective commitment as 'Leaders in Learning.'"

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 304 schools, 254 public and 50 private, as 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools.  Nationwide, 413 schools were nominated, with the chief state school officer nominating public schools. All nominated schools were invited by the U.S. Department of Education to submit an application for possible recognition through the Blue Ribbon Schools program. To qualify for recognition, schools must also have achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the past two years (including the award year).

Nineteen schools in Illinois received this recognition, four of which are located in Lake County. The 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored at an awards ceremony on November 15th-16th in Washington, D.C. A listing of 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools is available at http://www.ed.gov/programs/nclbbrs/awards.html.

Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 is a nationally recognized elementary district located in Lake County, Illinois and includes: Laura B. Sprague School for students in Early Childhood-second grade; Half Day School for students in third and fourth grades; and Daniel Wright Junior High School for students in fifth-eighth grades. (Note: Since students at Laura B. Sprague School do not participate in Illinois Standards Achievement Tests, the school does not meet the nomination criteria for this specific recognition.) The administrative center for the district is located at 1370 Riverwoods Road in Lincolnshire, Illinois. For more information about District 103 and its award winning schools, contact (847) 295-4030 or http://www.district103.k12.il.us/.
