Health Update: Feeling Only a Quarter Alive But Pushing Through, My Wife's Support and Generous Pastor |
Greetings!,
We continue to receive many messages, emails and cards regarding the challenging health issue I continue to face with cancer in my esophagus.
It has been found that the most important aspect of surviving a challenge like this is having a strong belief system or faith! After that, family and friends are the next most important factors. I am blessed to be rich in all of these!
This week I am thankfully having a break from chemo, although the radiation continues 5 days a week.
The second week of chemo was much worse than the first because it has an accumulative effect. I was only feeling about a quarter alive.
Appetite, taste and smell all get messed up. You don't feel like eating, nothing tastes good and everything smells bad! Fatigue sets in and there's very little I can do except just sit around and wait to get through it. About five days after receiving the chemo, I gradually start to feel human again.
I am not looking forward to the next round of chemo this Friday. Please pray that the Lord will give me the grace to endure it.
I want to pay special tribute to my wife Melva for all her support though this trial. It would be pretty desperate without her. Her resolve, determination and strong faith have been such an encouragement.
She is a teacher and preacher in her own right and has had to cancel nearly all her ministry plans for this time so that she can be a support to me. Please pray that sufficient provision will be there for her ministry too!
I was very encouraged recently by a pastor who offered to pay our mortgage for one month. This was a real blessing. Other pastors and individuals have been very generous in their support.
I am deeply grateful for everyone who assured me of their prayers and are sending financial support at this time.
One time donations are greatly appreciated, however monthly support is crucial to get us through this period so that we will be able to continue our mission.
We appreciate you standing with us in prayer and support!
