Dear Fair Chance Community,

I am amazed at how quickly this summer has flown by, but what really amazes me is how the Fair Chance network has done this summer.  Thanks to our partners and your support, countless opportunities were created for DC's children and youth in the past two months.  Below you will see updates from many of our partners and the variety of summer programs they offered DC children and youth.  It is truly inspiring.

I am also thrilled about whats happening here at Fair Chance.  This month we welcomed a new Board Member, Mary Brady, Executive Director of the Economic Club of Washington.  Her experience and knowledge of the nonprofit sector and the Washington Business community will be an incredible addition to our board.  We are working hard on this year's Butterfly Bash and counting down the days until October,14th.  Last year's event was incredible.  Our 450 guests left with a stronger connection to Fair Chance, wonderful new memories, and Georgetown Cupcakes in hand.  This year, we will again fill the room with 500 friends (old and new) to create more opportunities to elevate DC's children and youth.

Our partner services continue to thrive and our Executive Director Breakfast series is well attended by our partners.  We held one Executive Director breakfast meeting in June at Parklands Community Center and this month's will be hosted by the Fishing School.

We are also continuing to develop and strengthen our partnerships with DC organizations beyond our own network. By September, we will have held three training workshops and one intensive clinic designed for the Justice Grants Administration grantees who work with at-risk children and youth.

As always, thank you for being a continued supporter of Fair Chance.  We couldn't do the work we do without you in our corner.

-Maria Nagorski, Executive Director

What's Happening at Fair Chance

Welcome to the Team

Mary Brady joins the Fair Chance Board of Directors.  Mary Brady has worked in the nonprofit sector management field for over 24 years.  She has served as the Executive Director of the Economic Club of Washington since 2007 and as the Director of Administration at the Federal City Council.  She is engaged in the work of the Washington DC Police Foundation and is a member of the Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2009 with our Executive Director Maria T. Nagorski.  Mary's knowledge of the nonprofit sector, capacity building, and her corporate connections will be a huge asset to the board.

Congratulations to the Public Allies DC Class of 2011 and our very own Julie Lundy on completing the program!  We are very excited to announce that Julie will be staying with the Fair Chance team full-time through the month of October.  Julie will now be able to take on new challenges, deepen the relationships she's made with our partner organizations, and learn more from our experienced staff.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Public Allies DC in welcoming our new Public Ally in mid September.

Roundtables and Workshops

On Wednesday, July 20th Fair Chance continued it's collaboration efforts with the Justice Grants Administration (JGA) with the "All About the Ask" workshop which covered fund raising and fund development.  The workshop was led by Nancy McConnell of The McConnell Group.

On September 8th, we are hosting a 4 hour intensive clinic on Program Development, offered to the same group of JGA Grantees.  This workshop will be facilitated by Meeta Sharma-Holt and Dr. Carol Strickland of Build After School.
