If You Have Not Love  (11/10/2008) Did you ever think that you could do a kind thing and not be doing the will of God? Me either. But Paul taught in his first letter to the church in Corinth that God's will is not found in the act, but in the love behind it. With God's love behind it, our kindness is God's kindness. Without it, we're just banging and clanging. Wisdom Will Enter Your Heart  (10/13/2008) Wisdom has a recipe. It has ingredients. It has directions. If you seek after wisdom without considering the total recipe, you get something else. As we examine in detail we will find that what world offers up as wisdom comes up short because it is missing important ingredients and directions. Celebrate! For God So Loves You  (9/15/2008) The world is a mighty big place and it is easy to get lost in it. You can often feel anonymous among the masses and unnoticed amidst the noise of the world's hustle and bustle. But God cuts through it all, reaching out to each one of us individually. How does He do this? By giving a gift. Cast All Your Anxiety on God  (9/2/2008) Worry. It's one of those things we do that God wishes we didn't do. Care. It's one of those things God does that He wishes we understood better, because if we fully understood the depth of His care, we'd stop worrying. God Will Give His Angels Charge Over You  (6/30/2008) Does the thought of having angels watching over you give you comfort? Well it should, as long as the right kind of angels are doing the watching. Some angels are fallen and you don't want anything to do with them. Since they're fallen, they like it when you fall too. He Who Began A Good Work In You  (6/16/2008) No matter where we are in our lives, no matter what lessons we've learned, no matter how faithful to God we've been, one thing shows up in every honest self-assessment - we're not perfect; God still has work left to do in us. But progress in this work is not automatic. In order for the work to continue, we've got to let God in to do it. Jesus Will Give You Rest  (6/2/2008) "Oh what I would do for just a little rest." Have you said that to yourself recently? Many of us are burning candles at both ends and need some rest. So what would we do for it? Jesus taught us what we needed to do, but are we ready to do it? A date with that special someone, landing the big promotion at work, making the high school basketball team, all hinge on being chosen by others. Where is God in the midst of all this choosing? He's actively choosing too. And His choice has a target. You. You Can Do All Things  (3/31/2008) Have you ever come up against a task that seemed impossible to complete? Have you ever said to God, "I can't do this, I'm not strong enough or smart enough"? God has a message for you - sometimes you're right. There are things you can't do on your own. But don't be discouraged! God has another message for you. You can do all things through Christ. Jesus Has Prepared a Place For You  (3/17/2008) We know that we live in a broken world and long to get to our eternal home in heaven. The way to get there is the central question. In the answer there is no road map, no turn-by-turn directions, just Jesus Himself. Jesus Died For You  (3/3/2008) It's one thing to say Jesus died so that sinners might have the opportunity of eternal life. It's quite another to say "Jesus died for me, a sinner." When we look closely at why Jesus died we will see that Jesus' death is only one half of the story. The other half lies squarely in our corner. The Truth Will Set You Free  (1/17/2008) Jesus said that His teaching revealed truth, and that if we hold to it, we will be set free. In order to be set free, we must first be held captive in some way. This teaching begs the question, "set free from what?" In Christ You Are A New Creation  (1/2/2008) As we turn our calendars over and embark on another new year, our thoughts turn to starting over, making things better in the coming year, resolving to change things in our lives. The Bible has much to tell us about making a new start that can make this New Year truly different. Jesus Came That You May Have Life  (12/17/2007) At Christmas, it is right for us to ask and answer a very basic question – why did He come? Fortunately, Jesus Himself answered this question, and in His answer, we can find the greatest reason of all to celebrate Christmas – He came that we may have abundant life. Jesus Was Born For You  (12/4/2007) The Christmas holiday season is the most observed, most significant period on most family calendars in our country. For weeks we prepare, many times in all-consuming ways. While there is nothing wrong with devoting so much time and energy remembering and celebrating Jesus' birth, it is easy to assign undue significance to the event. Of the events that reveal Jesus' nature as the Messiah, His birth may be one of the least significant! In fact, there would be nothing about His birth to celebrate, were it not for three other events that truly define Jesus' Messianic nature. The Lord Is Your Helper  (11/19/2007) All of us need a little help every now and then. In fact, if we are frank with ourselves, we often need help. Things usually go better if we have the help of others. When we list out words that characterize God, Creator, Almighty, Lord, King, usually come to mind. 'Helper' doesn't usually make the list. So what does it mean to have God as our helper? God Has Plans For You  (11/1/2007) Jeremiah spends chapter after chapter speaking God's truth about the destruction and mayhem, conquest and exile that His people faced at the time. Then a small section in chapter 29 brings great news - that even though things were dire, God had great plans for His people. In fact, no matter how good, bad, difficult, or confusing the circumstances are, God always has great plans for His people. That means that God has great plans for us today! For God So Loves You  (10/17/2007) John 3:16 is probably the most familiar, most widely quoted scripture in the entire Bible. Familiarity can sometimes render something common, causing us to take it for granted. Since this passage expresses the fundamental truth about God's plan for salvation, we certainly don't want that to happen! There are three primary concepts in the passage - love, life, and God's Son.
