STOP Cuts to Homeless Services for Families
Don't Just Play - Advocate!
Join HCPP to ADVOCATE against the proposed huge budget cuts to homeless services for 2013.
Family homelessness has increased by nearly 50% since 2008 in DC. If we do not take ACTION, cuts targeted directly at DC General will likely prevent new families from seeking shelter. Where will families go?
Now is the time to join Playtime's Lunchtime Lobbying Sessions and make our voices heard that we will NOT accept another year of growing family homelessness and a lack of affordable housing.
WHO: You, mighty citizen of Washington DC!
WHAT: Lunchtime Lobbying at the DC Council
WHEN: The week of April 16th - Next Week!
Sign up here: http://bit.ly/HCPPadvocacy
WHERE: Wilson Building, 1350 Pa. Ave NW. [Map] WHY: Help prevent cuts that will hurt our families!
If you cannot make any of the sessions but still want to make your voice heard, please email Tom, our Advocacy Intern, at tom.hcpp@gmail.com.

Learn How to Make Pizza!
| |

Thanks to a great hands-on lesson from Brainfood's Community MVP's, twelve Playtime boys got to learn all about the art of making pizza. Our all-boy crew of chefs mixed and kneaded dough and chose from a selection of healthy toppings to create the pizza of their dreams!
Thanks to the teen leaders at Brainfood, each field trip participant got to try each step of making their own pizza, taste the yummy whole wheat crust (everyone's favorite part!), and bring home extras to share with their families.
A few chefs also made chocolate-carrot vegan cupcakes for the group to enjoy after pizza! After enjoying lunch, the group visited the Art of Video Games exhibit at the American Art Museum. It was a day of new friends, new healthy cooking skills and testing our brains with "old school" video games! Thank you Brainfood for creating this fun day and sharing your pizza making skills!

Teen Program Expands to Two Nights

Introducing Teen Tutoring Night at DC General!
In addition to playing games, talking about goals and meeting guest speakers on Wednesday night, our Teen Coordinator has expanded to hold Teen Tutoring night on Mondays! Both nights are very popular - read the quotes below written by the teens in a recent survey:
"Teen Night is fun, I'm going to miss it when I leave."
"I wish that Teen Night went for more hours, because there would be more time to learn."
"I would like Teen Night to be every day except the weekends."
