If the Council approves Mayor Gray's D.C. budget, thousands more children and their families will become homeless in 2012.
Families are being hit from all sides in this budget; protections against losing their homes are slashed; once families become homeless, there are far fewer shelter beds and affordable housing units available. This will be more costly to the city in the long run, not to mention the cost to individual children's well-being. That's where you come in...

It's simple. We will be asking City Council to:
1. Preserve the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) to prevent 2,000 more families from becoming homeless in 2011. The proposed budget cuts $5 million from this vital program which prevents families from becoming homeless.
2. Stop the $11 million in cuts to Homeless Services which funds emergency shelters for families. This year, hundreds of families are already being turned away from emergency shelter. Further cuts will led to further costs. How can we expect our children to learn and grow without a roof over their heads?
3. Protect the revenue increases in the Mayor's budget to avoid more cuts. The progressive taxes and sensible revenue raising proposals will be challenged by special interests and corporate lobbyists - let's show them that constituents will support them making the right choice!
