Please join us to celebrate National Tap Dance Day at Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, Sunday, May 23, at 6 pm. This year's TapRoots program is "Tapping into Our Family Tree." The show will honor some of the roots and branches on our tap family tree, and will feature friends and "family members" who pursue other forms of percussive dance. Urban Artistry will be in the house, as well as percussive dancers of other "persuasions," including Furia Flamenca's Carmen Smith Estrada, Natyabhoomi School of Indian Dance, and O'Neill-James School of Irish Dance. Like all Millennium Stage shows, it's also streamed live. To see past TWA performances at Millennium Stage, click here. To download a flyer, tap here.

And of course, it's never too early to get your tickets for our fabulous year-end concert, "The Percussion Discussion,"June 19 and 20, at Atlas Performing Arts Center. We'll be joined by a number of TWA alums, and have several surprises in store for you; we do hope you can be there with us for our 19th anniversary concerts.

TWA grads 2010TWA is proud to announce that four outstanding colleges and universities will soon be graced by the presence of our graduating seniors. (L to R) Ali SIlverstein is heading to Tufts, Lauren Stamm will be off to Vassar, Liza Mayman is going to James Madison University, and Alison Cross will head off to Mt. Holyoke. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Last Season for Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble
TWA silhouettesIt is with great sadness that the Board of Directors of TWA, Inc. decided recently that the award-winning Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble will be placed into "inactive status" at the conclusion of this performance season. The ensemble is no longer financially viable as the revenues from its operation have fallen and will continue to fall while its costs inexorably rise year after year. The ensemble will fulfill its remaining obligations, including a performance in honor of National Tap Dance Day on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage on Sunday May 23, two end-of-season concerts at the Atlas Theater on June 19 and 20, and a series of shows at the Smithsonian's Discovery Theater on July 6-9. Then, after 19 remarkable years, the ensemble will disband. The Board of Directors and the Directors of the ensemble are naturally crushed that this decision had to be made, and simultaneously proud of the great successes and triumphs enjoyed by the ensemble over its long and successful run.

The Board of Directors is currently working to ensure that Knock On Wood Tap Studio will continue to operate and offer the full array of youth and adult tap classes that its students have enjoyed for the past 15 years. But finances there are also challenging.

YOU CAN HELP in several ways. First, be sure to sign up - and get your friends to sign up - to take classes at Knock On Wood Tap Studio over the summer and next fall - schedules will be out soon.  Second, alert your friends and organizations you are familiar with that the studio space at Knock On Wood Tap Studio can be rented for dance classes, rehearsals, small performances, meetings, and other events that could benefit from our welcoming space located in the heart of Silver Spring, a short walk from the Metro. Interested renters can obtain information by emailing us, or calling 301-495-0395 and leaving a message.

And, finally, TWA, Inc. continues to be a 501(c)(3) that relies on the generous, tax-deductible donations of its many friends. Please consider making a donation to TWA, Inc. by mailing a check to Knock On Wood Tap Studio or donating by credit card by visiting our website. As you can well imagine, your donation at this time will be especially welcome.

If you have questions about the information in this announcement, please feel free to email the President of TWA, Inc.'s Board of Directors, Tim Daniel.
