TWA trio hats and flowersNo Kiddin'! It's Plant Sale Time
...TWA Inc.'s 13th Annual Plant Sale Fundraiser takes place May 2. This is a very important fundraiser for the studio, and a perfect way to get the annuals you need for summer! A wide variety of exceptionally healthy and beautiful flowering annuals will be available in flats, pots, and hanging planters. Some extra plants will also be available, but pre-order to be sure to get the plants and colors you love best. A downloadable order form is now online or pick one up at KOW. SECOND ANNUAL KINDRA J. INGRAM SCHOLARSHIP
TWA Kindra J. Ingram, DC is a former member of Tappers With Attitude. A strong proponent of tap, she believes that dancing in a group setting enriched her skills in teamwork and building strong supportive relationships. Dr. Ingram believes in the impact of TWA and still maintains relationships with former members. She has always sought ways to "give back" to her community and is now providing a 1-year KOW scholarship to a hard-working KOW student who wants to excel in the art of tap dance.

For complete details on the Kindra J. Ingram, DC - Tap Enrichment Scholarship, see our website or stop at the front desk for application packet. The application deadline is April 30, for the scholarship year September 2009 - June 2010. Award announcement will be made at KOW Student Showcase, June 7.

CLICK 'N CLACK, the TAP-IT SISTERS say... TAP INTO KNOWLEDGE!
Ernest "Brownie" BrownErnestHappy 93rd birthday, Ernest "Brownie" Brown! We're pleased to report that Brownie is still performing and teaching... and celebrating his long, successful career.

Chicagoan Brownie Brown grew up next door to a theatre for African American entertainers; his mother ran a theatrical boarding house nearby for these performers, who could not room in white-owned hotels. He learned the ropes at an early age, and began dancing and touring as a professional dancer at age 12.

In the 1930s and '40s, he and longtime partner Charles "Cookie" Cook were well-known vaudevillians, combining comedy and flash dance. They performed around the world, and were featured in Broadway's Kiss Me Kate, where he brought the house to its feet in "Brush Up Your Shakespeare."

Brownie and Cookie were original members of The Copasetics, and Brownie still teaches the infamous Copasetics chair dance. Perhaps you've seen this dance performed by Tappers With Attitude?

In 2004, Brownie received the "Living Treasure in American Dance" award from Oklahoma City University. He has appeared in films, and taught at festivals around the U.S. We're pleased to be part of the Brownie Brown legacy - and wish him many happy returns!

CONTEST QUESTION: We don't have a prize for this month's contest, but inquiring minds still want to know: who was Brownie Brown's longtime dance partner? If you know the answer, tell a friend - congratulations on your TapAptitude!

LAST MONTH'S Q&A:
Congratulations to TWA member Melissa Daniel. She knew that Jane Goldberg visited India on two Fulbright scholarships, and she won the drawing for Jane's book, "Shoot Me While I'm Happy."
