SECOND ANNUAL KINDRA J. INGRAM SCHOLARSHIP
|
Kindra J. Ingram, DC is a former member of Tappers With Attitude. She is a proponent of this art form and believes that dancing in a group setting has enriched her skills in teamwork and building strong supportive relationships. Dr. Ingram believes in the impact of TWA and still maintains relationships with former members. She has always sought ways to "give back" to her community; she taught tap while in college and continues to teach at Knock On Wood, when her schedule allows. In this spirit of giving, Dr. Ingram is now providing a 1-year KOW scholarship to a hard working KOW student who wants to excel in the art of tap dance.
For complete details on the Kindra J. Ingram, DC - Tap Enrichment Scholarship, see our website or stop at the studio front desk for an application packet. The application deadline is April 30, for the scholarship year September 2009 - June 2010. The award announcement will be made at Knock On Wood's Student Showcase, June 7.

CLICK 'N CLACK, the TAP-IT SISTERS say... TAP INTO KNOWLEDGE!
|
In the early '70s, the tap dancing of Astaire and Rogers stoked Jane Goldberg's dreams and her imagination, and she set off to learn all she could about tap. She studied tap dance, and tap dancers, and worked hard to revive interest in the now-aging tap masters - studying with them, interviewing them, documenting their lives and work, and creating performance venues for them.
Jane has finally released her long-awaited memoir, "Shoot Me While I'm Happy." This highly personal story features an inside peek at her relationships with dancers including Gregory Hines, Cookie Cook, Buster Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., and many others. The book also explores some of the issues around tap dance, and as an extra bonus, also serves up some delightful samples from Jane's treasure trove of photos.
To learn more about Jane, click here.
CONTEST QUESTION: Jane Goldberg's taps have been heard 'round the world. If you know what country she visited on two separate Fulbright scholarships, please email us with your answer. The first 20 correct responses will be put in a hat on March 18, and the winner will receive a copy of "Shoot Me While I'm Happy." This contest is open to all TIDBITS readers (unless you have already won one prize this semester!) PS: The book is also available for sale, and it contains a DVD of the tap documentary, "By Word of Foot."
LAST MONTH'S Q&A: Many of you immediately identified Sarah Petronio as our tap legend of the month. Congratulations to Andrea Cossettini, the winner of Peter Petronio's book, "Footprints: A Tap Dancer's World."
