AND THE AWARD GOES TO ... Us!
|
We're pleased to announce that KOW has picked up three recent honors.
At the Metro DC Dance Awards, Ms. Yvonne received the WPAS "Pola
Nirenska Award for Lifetime Achievement." At that same Kennedy Center
event, TWA was awarded "Outstanding Youth Performance 2007." Ms. Yvonne
was also honored with a special award from Dance Place for her "lifelong commitment to the field of dance..." We're proud to add these honors to
our growing list, and are honored to be part of DC's amazing dance
community.

TAP DOWN MEMORY LANE
|
Tap dance offers a boatload of health benefits, plus is funfunfun! So
we've finally convinced studio director Ms. Yvonne, age 73 and
counting, to start up a special class series for "mature dancers." The class will start with pre-dance warm-ups and also include some film clips and discussion. What a terrific way to get some exercise and meet some great new people at the same time.
Please help spread the word!

MASTER CLASSES - When Opportunity Knocks!
|
Our goal at Knock On Wood is to turn out well-rounded tap dancers who've had the chance to study with a variety of great teachers. We don't want you all to look and dance alike, or to dance just like us - we want to give you the "tools" to develop your own personal style and "voice." We encourage you to try master classes this year - in addition to being great for your skill development, you'll have a blast! Pick a class that is appropriate to your age and skill level, and don't be shy - master classes offer something for everyone.
We recommend master classes for all intermediate/advanced dancers! |
GETTING TO KNOW OUR STAFF: Meet Ms. Lisa, TWA's Assistant Director!
|
Ms. Lisa Swenton-Eppard is a 2nd-generation dance educator; she started dancing in her mother's dance studio in southern Maryland just as soon as she could walk. She's been teaching since she was 15, but no, we won't tell you when that was! In addition to her work with TWA, she serves on the Metro DC Dance Awards selection committee, and also teaches at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Her choreography is included in the repertoire of Tappers With Attitude. Be sure to say, "Hi," next time you see her, so you'll be treated to her famous million megawatt smile!
