God Squad, featuring children's singer-songwriter Chip Richter, is a faith-based program for children (pre-K to 5th-grade). Each session features live music with an object lesson, audience participation, fun craft and refreshments.
Lakeside Women's Club Girls' Club - Cupcake & Spa Party
Monday, July 18
11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Lakeside Women's Club (161 Walnut Ave.)
Lakeside girls (ages 5-12) are invited to attend a Cupcake & Spa Party. Adults will be present to assist with activities. Girls are encouraged to sign up at Green Gables, 161 Walnut Ave., prior to the event. The cost is $2.
Farmers' Market

9 a.m.-12 p.m. Walnut Avenue
Local farmers will sell fresh produce, honey, herbs, teas and homemade baked goods. This year, Farmers' Market bags are available for a reduced price of $2.
Jam Session
Wednesday, July 20
3-4 p.m. Bradley Temple Children (ages 10 and older) are invited to the Lakeside Jam Session with Connie Dieterich and Emily Donathan, Lakeside Youth/Education Music intern. Bring an instrument or use one from around the world to make music with friends.
Family Picnic in the Park
Wednesday, July 20
5:30 p.m. Perry Park
All are welcome to feast on hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, lemonade and cookies. Food, drinks and place settings are provided. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. There is no charge, but a $3 donation is suggested to help offset the cost. In the event of rain, the picnic will be cancelled.
Lakeside Puppet Show with Jeannie Rice "Around the World"
Friday, July 22
1:30 p.m. Bradley Temple
All are invited to attend the puppet show. The show will run 35-40 minutes, with a short Q&A afterwards. Next week's show will feature puppeteer Guy Thompson.

Orchestra Hall Movie Theatre
Orchestra Hall enjoys the distinction of being the only movie theater on the Marblehead Peninsula, as well as in all of Ottawa County. Enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of Orchestra Hall, watching first-run flicks and classic favorites.
Orchestra Hall has been updated with Dolby Stereo Sound, a brand new movie screen, and the two original projectors have been rebuilt.
Admission: Adult: $6 Child: $3 (under age 12)

C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts
The C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts holds an open house from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday during the season. This gives Lakesiders the opportunity to visit, meet the artists, check out the projects for the week and sign up for classes.

Waterfront Dining at Hotel Lakeside Café
The Hotel Lakeside dining room and outdoor café are open, serving lunch from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. On Sunday, a brunch buffet is offered from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost for Sunday Brunch is $15.95 for adults, $6.95 for children ages 6-10 and children under age five are free. In the case of inclement weather, the outdoor café will be closed. |

Throughout the summer, Lakeside will be accepting entries for a photo contest. The selected photo(s) will appear in the 2012 Calendar of Events brochure.
Share your Lakeside photos that capture the Chautauqua spirit and celebrate the unique beauty and character of the community. Images should represent family, traditions, children, religion, education, cultural arts (special events, programming), recreation, landscape, architecture and most importantly, people enjoying Lakeside.

Welcome to Week 5 of the Season
There are many opportunities to nurture mind, body and spirit during the 138th Chautauqua summer season. Rhythm and blues legend Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers will perform at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, at Hoover Auditorium. The Rev. Grace Imathiu will serve as the Chaplain of the Week and deliver the message, "No Future Without Forgiveness," at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Hoover Worship Service. Daily educational seminars will discuss Environmental Stewardship, Perspectives on U.S. Electoral Politics and "When Christians Get it Wrong (Right)."
Hoover Auditorium nightly entertainment will include Katie Spotz "Rowing the Atlantic," Pushcart Players "Peter & the Wolf," Scioto Ridge Boys, The Water Coolers and Rhythmic Circus "Feet Don't Fail Me Now."
Finally, featured recreational events include the Team and Youth Triathlons, Tennis Mixer and Grill-Out and pre-registration for the Raccoon Run. |

Lakeside Wooden Boat Show & Open Plein Air Art Festival
 A collaborative effort blending the craftsmanship of the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society (LWBS) and the artistic expression of the Lakeside - Open Plein Air Art Festival will create one of Lakeside's most unique weekends of the Chautauqua season from July 15-17.
This three-day event begins on Friday, July 15, when plein air artists arrive to paint outdoor landscapes until Sunday. The term "en plein air" means painting "in the open air."
The festival will host more than 30 plein air artists from across the Midwest. Lakesiders are invited to watch them paint. Read more...

Rhein Center Herb Garden is Open to All Lakesiders
 A community herb garden has been planted in the C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts' backyard, located on the corner of Walnut Avenue and Sixth Street.
"Each spring Lakeside has an Annual Plant Sale and the herbs in the garden were leftover from the sale," Lakeside gardener Vern Hartenburg said. "We had the idea to plant them at a convenient location and grow them for the community."
The Lakeside Grounds Department planted the herbs in early June and together, Hartenberg and Lakeside gardener Linda Bunker work to maintain the garden they envisioned. Read more...

Lakeside Women's Club Annual Tour of Homes
The Lakeside Women's Club (LWC) Tour of Homes will take place from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28. The tour will feature seven cottages and Green Gables -- the home of the LWC. A variety of architectural and furniture styles are included in the tour.
Tickets are $10 per person and a map will be available. There will be a special Cottage Tour gate pass available for $10 to guests. Chaplain of the Week: The Rev. Grace Imathiu
 Lakeside's Chaplain of the Week preaches at the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Hoover Auditorium, as well as each morning for Chaplain's Hour at 9:15 a.m. Monday-Thursday in Orchestra Hall, and at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday for Evening Praise at the Steele Memorial Bandstand.
For 2011, the format for the Friday Chaplain's Hour is an informal time of discussion with the Chaplain of the Week.
For July 17-22, Lakeside is pleased to host the Rev. Grace Imathiu, whose theme for the week is "The Journey of Forgiveness, Restorative Justice and Reconciliation."
Sunday's sermon is entitled, "No Future Without Forgiveness," (Genesis 45:1-15, Luke 6:27-31). Read more...

The Righteous Brothers' Bill Medley
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Santa Ana, Calif., Bill Medley grew up surrounded by music. His mother played piano and sang, while his father led a big band.
Medley began his musical career in high school glee club and youth singing contests. After hearing the music of Ray Charles and Little Richard, Medley's dreams of making it in the music business took shape. After forming a group called The Paramours, Medley was introduced to Bobby Hatfield head of the Variations and from there, The Righteous Brothers were formed. Read more...

Katie Spotz "Rowing the Atlantic"
 Katie Spotz, born in 1987 and originally from Mentor, Ohio, is an adventurer, world record holder and international fundraiser for clean water projects. Spotz will speak about her global humanitarian work and her endurance challenges during her Lakeside presentation.
In 2010, Spotz completed a solo trip in a 19' row boat across the Atlantic Ocean in 70 days, five hours and 22 minutes.
Her most recent endeavor began June 18, with friend Sam Williams. The two, along with a few other friends, biked from Oceanside, Calif., to Annapolis, Md. to raise funds for Blue Planet Network and FARM-Africa project. These organizations supply water to poor communities in northern Kenya. The trip took seven days and 16 hours to complete. Read more...

Pushcart Players "Peter & the Wolf"
 For more than 35 years, Pushcart Players has been performing as a touring ensemble with eight different productions.
With shows ranging from fairy tales to historical plays, the group has been nominated for an Emmy Award for its two prime-time specials on CBS, "This Time Friends" and "This Time Feelings."
Pushcart Players is comprised of professional theater artists hailing from Verona, N.J. The group is known for bringing different issues to life on stage. Pushcart Players' "Peter & the Wolf" tells the story of a Russian folktale. Read more...

Scioto Ridge Boys Gospel Quartet
For the past 16 years, the Scioto Ridge Boys Gospel Quartet has been delivering the message of salvation through music.
Established in their home church of Scioto Ridge, the quartet has sung at the Ohio State Fair, the Indiana State Fair and Lancaster Campground.
The ensemble has also performed at several West Ohio United Methodist Conference programs for the Bishop, United Methodist Church Development Activities and the National Annual Conference Treasurers meeting in Columbus, Ohio. Read more...

The Water Coolers Presenting a unique blend of comedy, original songs and song parodies, The Water Coolers will showcase its talents at Lakeside.
While the comedy routine is based on conversations employees have around the water cooler at work, the performance is centered on everyday life. The troupe satirically celebrates life, work, kids, spouses, travel, technology and trying to balance it all.

Rhythmic Circus "Feet Don't Fail Me Now"
Rhythmic Circus is supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from Ohio Arts Council, General Mills Foundation and Land O' Lakes Foundation. Additional sponsor is the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project.
Rhythmic Circus has built a reputation of hard-hitting tap dance, humor and rhythmic music by performing on everything from sand to folding chairs.

Recreation
Team and Youth Triathlons
The Team Triathlon will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, July 18, beginning at the dock. Gather friends to participate in this 20-mile event, including a one-mile swim, 15-mile bike ride around the Marblehead Peninsula and four-mile run through Lakeside. Race-day registrants must arrive at the dock by 7:30 a.m. The registration fee is $50 per team.
The Youth Triathlon (ages 9-16) will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, beginning at the dock. This unique event is held within the Lakeside gates and encourages young athletes to challenge themselves to swim, bike and run. Race-day registrants must arrive at the dock by 7:30 a.m. The registration fee is $25 per person.

Tennis Mixer and Grill-Out
The Tennis Mixer and Grill-Out will take place on Sunday, July 17 at the Williams Tennis Campus. Sign up at the Tennis Campus. The Tennis Mixer begins at 4:30 p.m. All levels are welcome. No partner is needed; players will be paired up. Cost is $5 per person. The Grill-Out starts at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a dish to share with others.
Pre-Register for the Raccoon Run On Sunday, July 24, more than 200 runners will take to the streets of Lakeside for the 31st Annual Raccoon Run. If registered by Monday, July 18, the registration fee is $5 without a T-shirt or $13 with a T-shirt. The registration fee after July 18 is $6 without a T-shirt or $16 with a T-shirt, if available.
