Sunshine Celebrations at Home
Every year the Curti Family from Santa Ynez, California, incorporates giving into their birthday celebrations. This year, twins Sophie and Isabella, 5, and their big sister Camilla, 7, chose Project Sunshine to focus their efforts on. Their mother Jennifer considers it "free lessons in life," as the children learn not to concentrate on receiving toys, but to reflect on how lucky they are to be healthy, and give back to others. After a tasty sugar high the girls and their friends put together Project Sunshine craft kits, and friends and family brought over books, kid friendly Band-Aids, and donations. For Sophie, Isabella and Camilla, they are celebrating the invaluable opportunity to help children in need. More about Ways to Give.

Sesame Street's "Maria" Spreads Sunshine
Sonia Manzano, widely known for her role as Maria on Sesame Street, is also an award-winning children's book author.
On August 25, Sonia shared her books with children at Lincoln Hospital in New York City. Sonia read to youngsters from two of her books No Dogs Allowed and A Box Full of Kittens.
When Sonia entered the children's rooms, squeals of delight could be heard as they discovered that she was indeed Maria from Sesame Street!

We Laughed Out Loud
On August 14, Project Sunshine's young leadership community had a laugh to support Project Sunshine's programs at the Comic Strip Live in the Upper East Side. The night featured a hilarious comedy lineup hosted by Ray Ellin and ended with a raffle of exciting prizes. Jessica Suckerman, Rachel Blumengold and Eli Lunzer served as the event's co-chairs. Project Sunshine's young leadership events raise valuable funds and awareness while providing this dynamic community with a chance to have a fun night out for a good cause! Want to host a fundraising event in your area? Please let us know about it!

Heart of Art
On Thursday September 4th, Project Sunshine supporters new and old came together in Houston, Texas at the 2nd Annual "Heart of Art" Fundraiser.
The evening featured an art exhibit with oil paintings by local artist Hanh Tran (pictured here on right), silent and live auctions, live music, cocktails and appetizers.
Guests viewed Hanh's artwork and became instant Project Sunshine volunteers by making craft kits sent to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Chapter Leader Spotlight
Genevieve Almodovar has brought joy to children for the past three years as Project Sunshine Chapter Leader at Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Doing fun arts & crafts (including painting - a favorite of the children!) has been a fulfilling experience for Genevieve as well, as she notes, "Being able to focus my time and energy into such a worthwhile cause rather than the usual work/home routine has been a huge positive influence in my life." Project Sunshine is grateful for her dedication to our organization, and to the children she has made smile with her creative activities and caring spirit. Interested in volunteering with Genevieve's chapter? Please send us an email.
