Chapter Spotlight: Houston, Texas

Project Sunshine Houston, TX Chapter
Inspired by her brother-in-law, a cancer survivor of two years, Jill Ingle started the Houston Chapter of Project Sunshine in June of 2007.

After seeing the affects first hand that a serious ailment can have on loved ones, Jill recognized the necessity to emotionally support hospitalized individuals, especially children.

Jill founded her chapter with the understanding that, "children are still growing emotionally and physically, and (illness) can be a lot to take in and deal with." Though the chapter started out with just 6 supportive members volunteering once a month, they have recently almost doubled in size and will soon be providing Project Sunshine programming three times a month at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Of her experience, Jill says, "It is so rewarding for the children and for our volunteers; the kids actually look out for our bright yellow t- shirts and frequently ask for us!"

NY Life Kids Spread Sunshine

NYLife Kids Spread Sunshine
On April 24th 2008, 1,000 children participated in Project Sunshine's "Kids for Kids" program as part of NY Life's "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day".

Children in ten US cities learned the importance of giving back to others by creating 6,000 craft kits and 3,000 Sunny Gram cards to be distributed by New York Life employees in fifteen pediatric hospitals across the country.

In honor of this special day, Project Sunshine received a generous contribution of 10,000 dollars from New York Life Insurance Company and the New York Life Foundation.

Bowl of Sunshine Event

Project Sunshine Bowl of Sunshine EventOn June 26, 2008 Project Sunshine's LA Chapter held the "Bowl of Sunshine" fundraiser at AMF Mar Vista Lanes in Venice, California.  The event was a huge success with over 100 people in attendance.

Los Angeles' top radio stations, Power 106 and Movin' 93.9, set the tone for a fun-filled evening by spinning popular tunes from both station's hit lists.  There was also a silent auction and raffle.

Happy winners walked away with prizes like Dodgers tickets, an autographed bowling ball and an Ipod.

Overall the event raised over $9,000 to support Project Sunshine's efforts in the LA area.  A huge thank you to Steven Bernstein, Debra Bernstein, Lara Boyko and Kimberly Moran Blad for chairing the event.
