Greetings!
This was supposed to be a happy newsletter giving you happy updates about our tree fundraiser, Crocket, adventures in the tractor seeking world, etc. Instead, it is a link to a blog post I wrote last night in response to the PRO HORSE slaughter propoganda email I received that is being disseminated throughout the rescue world and the general public.
It is from United Horsemen a pro-horse slaughter "rescue" group - they are ADVOCATING for the SLAUGHTER of HORSES! They have 501 status and are actually talking about putting a horse slaughter plant up in Wyoming to slaughter up to 20 horses per day.
PLEASE READ MY BLOG POST - they want to feed horse meat to our nations poorest citizens which can mean families with CHILDREN! This is wrong on SO many levels but for the sake of time - just one aspect is the fact that it could be absolutely catastrophic for our nations health!
As almost any product designed to keep horses healthy displays the warning "NOT to be used on horses intended for human consumption/slaughter" and many say "known to cause cancer in lab animals".
By the way, they are using the word "processing" to describe the brutal and horrific death that ALL horses that are slaughtered go through; thereby sanitizing it in the eyes of the unsuspecting public.
As my good friend Bev Strauss has said over and over, "Horses were never part of the American food chain!" I want YOU to help us ("us" - as in the horse loving community) to keep it that way. This group is headed by David Duquette & Sue Wallis.
You can help us by forwarding this email onto everyone you know; horse owner or not - this country was built on the back of horses and they are an American Icon!
In my opinion, horses are not a commodity that should be used to put money into the pockets of individuals such as those running United Horsemen. I am waiting on information about who to contact in the government to stop this nightmare from ever happening and once I have it I will send it to you.
In the mean time, please call or email David and Sue and let them know that there can NEVER be humane horse slaughter!
