"Text messaging is on the rise, and undoubtedly, some "texters" or "tweeters" are sending and receiving messages while driving. In December 2008, more than 110 billion messages were being sent each month, up from less than 10 billion just three years ago. To gauge the effect of these road messagers, Car and Driver magazine decided to conduct a road test to determine just how dangerous texting and driving can be. The results were eye-opening."

Short Film Screening and Discussion
on LGBTQQ/Youth Suicide and Prevention

Please join us for a special short film and discussion. The Trevor Project has generously donated their award winning short film, Trevor.

In light of the ways our communities are affected by depression and suicide, we invite you to join the conversation as we watch the film and dialogue on these pressing issues. Allies are welcome. Snacks and beverages provided.

LGBTQQ Social, First Fridays of the month, San Jose
Join De Anza College's Gay Straight Alliance for First Friday Artwalk. Every First Friday night, there's music and open art museums in San Jose. Outlet Youth are welcome to attend this free public event with De Anza College's Gay Straight Alliance. They'll be meeting at Cafe Trieste (315 S 1st St, Downtown San Jose) at 7:30PM.

Transgender Youth Study
June - Summer 2009
Youth Interviews

We are conducting 1-2 hour personal interviews with youth and young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 who identify as transgender or genderqueer.  You can use any name you want, and what you say is confidential.  We will ask you questions about your experiences and relationships.

Parent/Guardian Interviews
We are also conducting 1 hour personal interviews of parents and/or guardians of transgender youth.  If you think your parent or guardian might be interested, have them contact us!  They will be interviewed separately, and a parent's participation is not required for you to be part of the study.

Camp Ten Trees

Camp Ten Trees is a non-profit summer camp in the Pacific Northwest featuring a week for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their allies, and a week for children of LGBTQ families.

Scholarships
1. The Los Angeles-based California Community Foundation has announced scholarships totaling nearly $105,000 to help thirty-eight students attend college. The gifts, ranging from $500 to $10,000, are supported by the Adiba Shaby Scholarship Fund, which is administered by the foundation.
