| Three Kings Day: January 6th 2009 |
"Three Kings Day, also known as The Epiphany, is celebrated on January 6th, twelve days after Christmas. It is often viewed as the last day of the Christmas season (the end of the 12 days of Christmas).
Epiphany, from the Greek word Epiphania, meaning "revelation" is based on the biblical story that tells of the Magi or Three Kings - Caspar, (or Kaspar or Gaspar) Melchior and Balthasar - who saw a bright star on the night Christ was born and followed it to Bethlehem.
There they found the Christ child and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The legendary visit would later gave rise to the custom of gift giving at Christmas on the Feast of the Epiphany, traditionally observed on January 6.
Today, Epiphany goes by various names in different cultures, i.e., Little Christmas, Three Kings Day, or Twelfth Night, which remains the official end of the season's "Twelve Days of Christmas" counting from Christmas evening on December 25 to the Ephiphany on January 6.
In Mexico in particular, serving Rosca de Reyes, a festive sweet bread in the shape of a king's crown, is also a still-popular tradition on Three Kings Day.
In England, Epiphany or "Twelfth Night" was the last opportunity to make merry before a return to the usual toil of the workaday world. The traditional Yule log was also kept lit until Twelfth Night in order to bring blessings & good fortune throughout the upcoming year.
In Germany, children go from house to house on Epiphany eve, singing carols and chalking the year and initials KMB (those of the kings, Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar), near the entrance of each home. The festive Dreikonigskuchen or Three Kings Cake is also served that night to celebrate the occasion."- Three Kings Day

Chinese New Year: January 26th, Year of the Ox
|
"Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar new year, begins on January 26th, 2009. "The Chinese New Year is celebrated as the symbol of spring's celebration. In fact in China the Chinese New Year is still called the Spring festival. It is celebrated after the fall harvest and before the spring planting season. The date of the Chinese New Year is always changing and is dependant on the Chinese calendar. The Chinese calendar is a combined solar/lunar calendar and is somewhat similar to the Chinese calendar, which was invented by Emperor Huangdi in the year 2637 B.C.E.
Chinese have a unique way of representing the New Year through animals. They have 12 different animals to represent each year of the 12 year -cycle and the order remains the same throughout with the year of the rat beginning the cycle and the year of the boar/ pig ending the same. As the Chinese year 2008 was signified as the year of the rat, the following year, 2009, is going to be the year of the ox. Chinese New Year of OX, 2009 will fall on January 26th and will mark the 15 day long festivities beginning on the said date and going on till the 9th of February.
Preparations for the Chinese New Year of Ox, 2009 will begin months in advance so that the celebrations be observed in the highest magnitude and splendor. As the different years of the 12 year cycle are characterized by different animals, people born on the different years also feature different traits and characters and most often then not, they are believed to be influenced and inspired by the animals of the particular year they are born in. - Chinese New Year
