The recipients of the
SANEA Energy Awards for 2012
were announced at a ceremony and banquet hosted by Brian Statham, chairman of the
South African National Energy Association (SANEA). This gala event reflected the significance of the both the awards and the recipients, who are striving on a daily basis to ensure that South Africa enjoys a stable and secure energy future.
The
Premier SANEA Energy Award for 2012 was awarded jointly to
Prof. Anton Eberhard, a commissioner at the National Planning Commission (NPC) and head of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) at the University of Cape Town, and
Mike Rossouw, chairman of the Energy Intensive User Group (EIUG) and a director at Xstrata.
The
SANEA Energy Project Award for 2012 was awarded to the
City of Cape Town. Spurred on by its Energy and Climate Change Unit under the leadership of
Sarah Ward, Cape Town has demonstrated leadership and innovation through its various campaigns and projects designed to ensure the responsible use of energy.
The
SANEA Energy Education Award for 2012 was awarded to the
South African Institute for Architectural Technologists (SAIAT). For several years
Peter Brown and
Frans Dekker of
SAIAT have travelled throughout South Africa conducting workshops to ensure that professionals and the general public are made aware of the importance of energy efficiency in building design and management.
The
SANEA Energy Journalism Award for 2012 was awarded to
Lise Pretorius for her work at the
Financial Mail from August 2010 to July 2012, where she has been particularly effective in advancing the understanding of energy matters in South Africa.
