Delegates attending GISSA Ukubuzana 2012 qualify for three CPD points, and presenters qualify for an additional one CPD point. Certificates of attendance will be issued for CPD purposes.

Mayor of Ekurhuleni to welcome delegates to GISSA Ukubuzana 2012
The City of Ekurhuleni supports and endorses GISSA Ukubuzana 2012, and has signed up as Diamond Sponsor of the event. The Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Hon. Chief Surveyor-General of South Africa to give opening address
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform supports and endorses GISSA Ukubuzana 2012, and the Chief Surveyor-General of South Africa, Mmuso Riba, will be giving the opening address. Over 120 delegates from the Department will be attending the conference as delegates.

Loyiso Gola and the Gala Banquet line-up at GISSA Ukubuzana 2012
Guests to the Gala Banquet will be welcomed by a 4-piece string quartet from the Joburg Philharmonic Orchestra, who will play during the starter and main course. Panel discussions and debates of serious issues in the sector
There are five important panel discussions at GISSA Ukubuzana 2012 that will debate serious issues in the sector, namely:
- Collective intelligence, crowd sourcing and volunteered geographic information, and how these can be exploited in a developing country
- The importance of standards for spatial data infrastructure and business in a developing country
- Developing capacity and skills for remote sensing at a policy and technical level; is the value of remote sensing understood by the decision makers?
- Continuing professional development: the needs and requirements of the South African geospatial industry
- GIS business models in a developing country - what are the options?

VIP executive briefing and luncheon
A VIP executive briefing from is being held on 3 October to sensitise high-level executives in the public and private sectors of the importance of GIS for effective infrastructure development and service delivery, and to encourage investment in GIS human resources and technology. The briefings will be presented by: Dr. Derek Clarke, director, National Geo-spatial Information (NGI); Dr. Herman Booysen, national chairman, GISSA, Morena Letsosa, director: geo-informatics, City of Ekurhuleni; and Paul Marshall, president, PLATO.
Academic papers, general papers, short papers and poster papers
Some 60 peer-reviewed academic papers, general papers, short papers and poster papers will be presented. The final line-up and programme of presentations and papers is under preparation and will be formally announced and made available for download shortly. The final printed programme will be distributed in the September 2012 issue of PositionIT magazine.
Training workshops at GISSA Ukubuzana 2012
Computer-based training and knowledge transfer workshops will be conducted in three training rooms, each kitted out with chairs and tables arranged classroom-style for 30 trainees, with a screen, digital projector, notebook PC for the presenter and 15 PCs. The programme will be announced shortly, and distributed in the September 2012 issue of PositionIT magazine.
