CALL FOR PRESENTERS OF TRAINING WORKSHOPS

GISSA Ukubuzana 2012 is primarily aimed at leaders, academics, professionals, technologists, technicians, students and companies in the public and private sectors involved with or interested in geographic information science (GIS), information and communication technology (ICT), global positioning systems (GPS), surveying, remote sensing, and location-based applications and business.

In line with the mission of GISSA, there will be a significant emphasis at GISSA Ukubuzana 2012 conference and exhibition on education and training, skills development and knowledge transfer.

Running in parallel with the conference,  there will be three concurrent streams (Training stream 1, 2 and 3) of hands-on, computer-based training and knowledge transfer workshops, held over two days (Day 2 and Day 3).

These workshops will be conducted in three fully-equipped training rooms, each kitted out with a screen, digital projector, notebook PC for the presenter and 15 notebook PCs all connected on a wireless LAN, and chairs and tables arranged classroom-style for 30 trainees (two trainees per laptop PC).

Trainings streams 1 and 2 on Day 2 and 3 are arranged in one hour blocks (45-minute training followed by a 15-minute break), and are available for training and knowledge transfer hosted by commercial vendor companies. The cost to vendor companies for this workshop training opportunity is R4000 + VAT per one-hour block.

Training stream 3 on Day 2 and 3 is reserved for non-commercial training and knowledge sharing e.g. by non-commercial organisations, academia, postgraduate and undergraduate students, and for presentation of short papers, project presentations, etc. There is no cost for presentations in Training stream 3.

Call for presenters of commercial training

Vendors of GIS, ICT, GPS, surveying, remote sensing and location-based business products, systems and services are invited to host and present commercial training workshops for Training streams 1 and 2 on Day 2 and 3 of GISSA Ukubuzana 2012.

Call for presenters of non-commercial training

Non-commercial organisations, academia, postgraduate and undergraduate students are invited to present non-commercial training and knowledge transfer sessions, project presentations and short papers for Training stream 3 on Day 2 and 3 of GISSA Ukubuzana 2012.

Training material and documentation

Past experience has shown that a high-quality training workshop requires significant preparation for each hour of presentation time, and it is expected that presenters will develop training material for attendees to take away, such as handouts, a workbook, CD, memory stick, etc. Such training material needs to be prepared well in advance of the conference.

Special conference price for presenters

The presenter of a training workshop (one presenter per workshop) may attend the conference on the day of the workshop free-of-charge, and may attend the full conference at the reduced price of R3200 + VAT.

13 July 2012: Notification of acceptance of training workshop proposals
