EE Publishers for Citizen Journalism |
by Chris Yelland, managing director EE Publishers is actively encouraging the submission of civic-minded articles, news, pictures and audio/video clips from its readers and the general public for consideration for publishing in its magazines, email newsletters and website. To this end, EE Publishers has established a facility at its website for readers and the general public to upload articles, files and supporting documents under the category of Citizen Journalism. In addition, EE Publishers has established a Facebook page entitled EE Publishers for Citizen Journalism, where readers may submit short commentaries, articles, pictures, captions, links, audio/video clips, etc., following widely familiar procedures. Upload a Citizen Journalism submission at EE Publishers' website Post to the EE Publishers for Citizen Journalism wall on Facebook Articles and pictures submitted in the category of Citizen Journalism should be non-commercial in their content and intent, and relevant to the scope and target audience of EE Publishers, namely the energy, power, electricity, electronics, measurement, automation, computer, telecommunications and geographic information science sectors. Appropriate subject matter for EE Publishers Citizen Journalism may comprise:
- Awards, achievements and good news
- Open industry events
- Failures, disasters and bad news
- Dangers to workers and the public
- Poor maintenance
- Public and occupational health and safety
- Non-compliance with compulsory or safety standards
- Environmental non-compliances
- Consumer and quality issues
- Unfair business practices
- Corruption and fraud
- Exposes and whistle-blowing
- Views, comment and opinion
- Letters to the editor
In general, Citizen Journalism articles submitted to EE Publishers anonymously will not be considered. However it is recognised that in some cases there may be good reason why the confidentiality of the author(s) should be maintained. In such cases, such good reason must be provided. Citizen Journalism submissions for publishing in EE Publishers magazines, email newsletters and website are subject to the Press Code and the same well established EE Publishers Editorial Policy (editorial oversight, controls and review) as any other content published by EE Publishers. For any submission, EE Publishers' editors reserve the right to follow-up, investigate, verify, edit, shorten and submit it to affected persons for comment, response and right-of-reply. A decision not to publish a Citizen Journalism submission may be because the editor considers it inappropriate to the target audience, poorly written, dishonest, deliberately or maliciously misleading, with an improper hidden agenda, or because the editor considers that EE Publishers is being used for improper purposes. We look forward to the participation of aspiring EE Publishers Citizen Journalists, and welcome your feedback on this initiative!
