BRIEF CV OF THE INTERNATIONAL GUEST SPEAKER
 
Dr. Fereidoon (Perry) Sioshansi is president of Menlo Energy Economics, a consultancy based in San Francisco, California, serving the energy sector. His professional experience includes working at Southern California Edison Company (SCE), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), National Economic Research Associates (NERA), and most recently, Ventyx, now acquired by ABB. Dr. Sioshansi provides consulting services to the industry, policy makers and regulators on a range of topics including:
  • Energy efficiency, demand-side management, and demand response
  • Smart grid and smart metering initiatives
  • Dynamic pricing including implementation of smart prices to smart devices
  • Support and integration of renewable energy technologies into the grid
  • Regulatory policy and scenario analysis
  • Market restructuring, privatisation, liberalisation and integrated resource planning (IRP)
  • Corporate strategy on climate change and sustainability

His recent edited books include:

  • Electricity market reform: An International Perspective (2006)
  • Competitive electricity markets: Design, implementation, performance (2008)
  • Generating electricity in a carbon constrained world (2009)
  • Energy sustainability and the environment: Technology, incentives, behavior (in print)
  • Smart grid: Integrating renewable, distributed and efficient energy (forthcoming in 2011)

Dr. Sioshansi is the editor and publisher of EEnergy Informer, a monthly newsletter with international circulation. He is on the editorial advisory board of The Electricity Journal where he writes the Electricity Currents section. A frequent contributor to energy policy, he serves on the editorial board of Utilities Policy. He has degrees in engineering and economics, including an MSc and PhD in economics from Purdue University.
