SYNOPSIS South Africa's nascent Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff programme, or REFIT, has been developing rapidly over the past year. The programme has generated huge stakeholder interest from developers, investors and financiers within South Africa and throughout the world. The momentum established in 2009 has been sustained into 2010 and developments towards finalisation of the programme continue apace. The presentation will cover the following key areas:

BRIEF CV OF PRESENTER Scott Brodsky is an energy and projects partner in the Johannesburg office of Dewey & LeBoeuf. He has more than two decades of experience advising sponsors, project companies, financiers, governments and financial advisors on projects in Africa, the UK, Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the Indian sub-continent, and Asia. He has advised on a broad range of projects in the power, oil and gas, renewables, transport and other infrastructure sectors. On behalf of the South African National Energy Association (SANEA), you are invited to attend an evening lecture in Durban, entitled: THE MONDI MULTI-FUEL BUBBLING FLUID BED BOILER PLANT presented by David L Brook, technical director, Babcock Africa

SYNOPSIS Babcock Engineering has designed and constructed a multi-fuel boiler for Mondi Business Paper in KZN to facilitate an environmental solution to the utilisation of their residual process materials (RPM) and for the generation of steam and power to reduce dependency upon the national grid. The presentation will outline the project scope, interesting difficulties experienced with the multi-fuel nature of the plant and the successes achieved in identifying and overcoming these. The fuels available include bark, sawdust, sludge (mixed virgin and de-inking), fly-ash, coarse-ash, with coal (optionally gas) as an auxiliary fuel, whilst start-up is on natural gas.
BRIEF CV OF PRESENTER
David Brook graduated from Wits University with a BSc and MSc in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Babcock in 1983 and has lead much of Babcock's work with Eskom through the life extension period of the 1980s, together with the development of maintenance and manufacturing capability, before becoming a director in 1994, with portfolios that have included all aspects of the company business from maintenance and construction, to engineering, sales and company leadership.
