What is it that makes China so successful and how can Chinese experience be used to the advantage of Africa. It is evident that China is also investing heavily in Africa and this should be to Africa's advantage. Why is Africa attractive to Chinese investors and what distinguishes them from western investors? Are there lessons to be learned, opportunities to be seized and threats to be avoided? SANEA Cape Town lecture |
On behalf of the South African National Energy Association (SANEA), you are invited to attend an evening lecture in Cape Town, entitled: NATURAL GAS: AN UPDATE ON SA's POTENTIAL presented by David van der Spuy,
Manager: resource evaluation, Petroleum Agency SA
DATE: Wednesday 21 July 2010 TIME: 17h30 for 18h00 VENUE: Engen Petroleum Conference Centre, Thibault Square, c/o Riebeeck and Long Street, Cape Town COST: Free-of-charge, including drinks and snacks Refreshments and snacks will be served before and after the lecture, and there is ample opportunity for networking with friends, colleagues and energy professionals.
Come and join the energy professionals at SANEA for an evening of provocation and challenge, to learn more about energy options for South Africa, debate the issues, and get some answers! SYNOPSIS Since 1992, SA has seen natural gas production from the F-A gas field and its surrounding satellites, at a rate of up to 200 mmscf/day. After 20 years, these reservoirs are depleting, while there is an increasing need for energy in SA. Natural gas may yet prove to be an important part of the solution. A Production Right has been granted to Forest Oil International, to develop the Ibhubesi gas field off the West Coast. With the investment certainties brought about by legislation, other international and local exploration companies will soon be resuming exploration off SA's shores for conventional gas resources, while others are beginning to investigate the potential of less conventional resources such as coal bed methane, deep basin gas associated with helium and also shale gas in the Karoo Basin onshore. BRIEF CV OF PRESENTER David van der Spuy has been involved in the SA oil and gas industry for over 22 years. He started as a geochemist with Soekor and has also worked for Halliburton as an independent consultant. Since late 1999, he has been with Petroleum Agency SA where he has worked as a geochemist and general geologist, mostly on the geology of the Orange Basin off our West Coast. For the last 4 years he has been the resource evaluation manager responsible for appraising SA's offshore resources and promoting its potential to local and international oil and gas explorers. He holds degrees in geology, geochemistry and management. REGISTRATION AND FURTHER INFORMATION Please click here to register online by Friday 16 July 2010.
