On Sunday July 22, students entering kindergarten up to high school seniors will be lining up for back-to-school shopping at Kohl's. We are grateful to both returning and first-time volunteers who will be chaperoning the students as they pick out their new school clothes, the San Luis Obispo County YMCA for handling the Live Scan process for all new volunteers and the Kiwanis Club of Bay-Osos for providing a pancake breakfast. This year's Premier Sponsors are the Running & Tennis Warehouse and Zurn Wilkins. Silver Sponsors are the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak and Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. Other top sponsors include I Care International, Morris & Garritano and Promega Biosciences. Thanks to generous donations from all our sponsors, workplaces, and individual donors, nearly 200 youth will each purchase $100 worth of new school clothes. We look forward to a smooth and successful morning at Kohl's in both Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo. |
Help Stuff the Bus for Back-to-School |
Although it feels like summer has just begun, the new school year is quickly approaching. Families will soon be making their back-to-school shopping lists and equipping their children with backpacks full of new binders, pencils and other school supplies. However, every year many children return to school unprepared because their families cannot afford these expenses. Teachers often purchase new school materials out of their own pockets. This is why United Way of San Luis Obispo Cou nty provides the annual Stuff the Bus program. We are seeking volunteers for three Office Max locations: Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo during August 3-10. Volunteers will greet customers and offer shopping lists of items that are needed. Volunteers will then place the items on the yellow school bus parked outside the store, to be delivered to elementary schools countywide. Volunteer shifts are Monday-Friday 4:00-7:00pm and Saturday & Sunday 12:00-4:00pm. Volunteers can choose their hours and work in pairs. Please contact the United Way office at (805) 541-1234 to sign up, or send us your information on volunteerslo.org. Special thanks to our key partners in this event, Office Max and KSBY! |
