From August 13 to 20, United Way of San Luis Obispo County, in partnership with KSBY and Office Max, will 'Stuff the Bus' with school supplies. Join us at Office Max in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, and Arroyo Grande, weekdays 4:00-7:00 PM and weekends 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

Volunteers are needed to distribute school supply wish lists and to collect and sort supplies on the buses! Sign up to volunteer at VolunteerSLO.org.

Help gather donated supplies in your workplace with your co-workers or clients by downloading a flyer and posting it. You can also download a shopping list from our website.

BANKKidSpree 2010
Thank you for your support of KidSpree!

Thanks to the generous support of the community, over 150 children were able to shop at Kohl's in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo on Sunday morning, July 25!
KidSpree
Thank you to our major sponsors:
Spencer's Fresh Markets donated orange juice for each child, and the San Luis Obispo County YMCA fingerprinted all volunteers, free of charge. Significant child sponsorships came from First Bank of San Luis Obispo, Kiwanis Club of San Luis Obispo Morning, Kohl'ss, Melvin C. Caldwell Construction, Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo Daybreak, Running Warehouse and Tennis Warehouse, and local resident and longtime supporter Bob Nichols.

Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
In order to help promote financial stability and independence, in 2009 United Way joined forces with Junior Achievement to teach high school students about personal financial basics.  The JA High School Financial Planning Program, developed by the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), covers budgeting, saving, credit, investing, identity theft and insurance in five consecutive weekly sessions.  During each lesson, students learn about key terms and concepts, and apply their new knowledge to a group activity or game.  Volunteer teams teach each session, bringing their own personal knowledge and experience to the classroom while encouraging students to explore the role that money plays in achieving their personal goals.  Throughout the course planning, goal setting and thoughtful decision-making skills are emphasized.

United Way is looking for volunteers to help teach the sessions in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles.  Ideal candidates will have first-hand knowledge and experience with sound financial practices (a career in banking or the financial industry is especially applicable), be comfortable presenting to high school seniors, and will be available for a one hour orientation and five hour-long classes.  Contact Rachel Cementina at (805) 541-1234 or rcementina@unitedwayslo.org for more information or to volunteer.
